I can't make my mind up.

AeroDynamik makes me want to have it large. Pocket Calculator is verging on ridiculous.

As a LOVER of houseand electronic music then I consider Kraftwerk to be one of the most inspirational groups ever to the scene along with early Daft Punk, Prodigy and Way out West.

Deffo Genius.

What's more (to Mrs Gwylan's dismay) I've got the kids into them too.

I think their live gig in Brixton about six years ago was one of the best gigs I've ever been to.

Absolute geniuses, no question.

Massive influence on all electronic music that came afterwards.

Unforgettable tracks - Radioactivity, Transeurope Express, Autobahn.

What's not to like?

Geniuses.

If you only like their 'recent' stuff, you don't really get them, imo.

Hmmmm, the lyrics to Pocket Calculator go thus:

I'm the operator with my pocket calculator
I'm the operator with my pocket calculator
I am adding and subtracting
I'm controlling and composing
I'm the operator with my pocket calculator
I'm the operator with my pocket calculator

I am adding and subtracting
I'm controlling and composing
By pressing down a special key, it plays a little melody
By pressing down a special key, it plays a little melody

I'm the operator with my pocket calculator
I'm the operator with my pocket calculator

I'm no poetry expert myself but...

Oh yeah, I'll tell you something
I think you'll understand
When I say that something
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand

What's your point?

And what's it got to do with poetry, anyway?

I LOVE house, electro, techno, currently listening to Aphex Twin. but i always found Kraftwerk too course and mechanical. maybe i need to revisit.

All I am saying is, in my opinion, the Pocket Calculator lyrics really are a bit childish and could well have been penned by my 7 year old niece...

Great band - revolutionised synth. Still love The Model.

The only downside was that they allowed Coldplay to use the Computer Love melody in 'Talk'.

listen to a few tracks, i remember now. the lyrics are jarring and i dont get on with tempo, too fast to be ambient, to slow to be dance. The Model is their stand out track because they get this right and passable lyrics. trying too hard to be a old style concert filling band, but before their time.

now Tangerine Dream... excellent, haven't listen to their stuff for a while.

Not my cuppa. Too many better among synth bands alone, without taking in the rest of the electronic genre (inc Fad Gadget, Ultravox, ,<early>Human League, Visage, Landscape, Jean Michel Jarre and etc).

Kraftwerk's earliest stuff was just long grooves wasted with buzzing noises, basically. The later stuff occurs to me as pseud dreck, with poseurs plonking around making out they are mannequins or androids or whatever. Geeks.
