I believe the referee in question has to agree to it being rescinded. I may be wrong on that but I thought that was the rule (and i'm retty sure I heard that on Five Live last night).

Which, if correct, means the ref agreed that he had made an error.

I've been critical of Kompany's two footed tackle in the Manchester derby a year ago but this was a one footed tackle using reasonable force. Note that Kompany's right foot was bent behind his left leg at the point of impact with the ball with his left foot.

As for showing studs, it was a ground tackle quite a distance from the Arsenal player's body. Indeed, the Arsenal player fell onto Kompany's body rather than his legs.


Agree with that but it took about 4 different angles before that became clear. No way Dean could see that. If I was in Deans position I would have given a red too, mistakenly. Don't want tv replaysw for refs either because mistakes are part of the game.
