AMSTERDAM - The football future of Kjell Scherpen (21) does not seem to lie with Ajax, but in England. Sources around the Amsterdam club report that the talks with Brighton & Hove Albion about the definitive transfer of the goalkeeper, which should cost approximately five million euros, are at an advanced stage. An agreement would be within reach.

At Ajax, which Scherpen took over from FC Emmen for 1.5 million euros in 2019, they remain convinced of the qualities of the young goalkeeper. But confidence was damaged. In the home game against AS Roma, he blundered at 1-1 and did not look good with the second Italian goal. A departure is considered best for everyone.

He had a real bad start to his Ajax career due to a couple of positive tweets about Feyenoord in the past, then made a couple of mistakes to add to that and things are probably not very fun for him.

Remains to be seen if he stays with Brighton (if he can even get a work permit) or goes on loan somewhere.

Highlights below. Scherpen makes a good save at 1:12 of the video. Horrible fumble for the Roma first goal (4:30) but I'm not sure he could have done much about the winner (6:05) though as it was hit at some speed.

5 millions euros is a complete joke. Everbody in the Netherland is laughing their heads off, even Ajax itself. His performance against AS Roma was very weak. Save your money. Don't buy him or offer 1,5 millions euro.

Sorry to spoil your fun.

We definitely need a quality back up or competition for the GK spot, a red card or injury will inevitably happen for Sanchez. If its seem the club dont think Steele or Walton can do the job then an upgrade is key.

He'll be coached by one of the best keeper coaches in the country. He'll come good I'm sure.

Walton definitely going - one year extension on his contract purely so that we can get a fee, I'm sure. Ryan to Arsenal (II think and hope), with a smallish fee coming our way - maybe about what we paid for him.
Scherpen as no.2 perhaps, but with Steele as the bench-warmer. Good loan for McGill required, and for Rushworth. Then we'll see in the summer of 2022 whether either of them will nudge ahead of Scherpen, or be sold as part of the making the development squad sustainable project.

If our great coach cant make him a world class goalie then we will loan him to Leeds United & he will come back a polished turd.
