6'8 and still growing, we're determined to learn from our mistake of signing a dwarf goalkeeper aren't we?! Seem to be going to extreme lengths to make amends!

Perhaps not tall for a keeper, but I would argue that 184 cm is not dwarf-sized.

This one seems like a free hit. If he arrives and is good, then we have 2 decent keepers competing for 1 spot. If he's shit then we've paid a relatively small sum for a bench keeper and Sanchez continues his starting role. Wages will be balanced out by Walton and Ryan leaving. But if our goalkeeping coaches have seen him play and think he can make the grade then I trust that.

Steele is nowhere near Premier league quality, and McGill is too young and inexperienced for Prem currently.

Loan rules prevent the recall of any player except during the transfer window. The emergency goalkeeper rule would mean we'd be able to sign a goal keeper from another club on a rolling 1 week basis provided we had no professional goalkeepers available.

Where is that from as there is nothing in the Premier League rulebook that mentions that exception?

Edit - Those rules seem to be from the EFL website which only applies to Championship clubs and below. The PL have separate rules and don't seem to mention the ability to recall a goalkeeper outside of the transfer window. I'm sure I read before the PL don't really like to allow emergency goalkeepers, they refused Liverpool one a few seasons ago because one of their keepers was suspended rather than injured.

55.1.5 Notwithstanding the provisions of Regulation 55.1.1, a Standard Loan of a goalkeeper (but not otherwise) may be subject to a recall clause exercisable at any time. Any recall may only be implemented:

(a) in extenuating circumstances and with the consent of The League, such extenuating circumstances to be determined in The League's absolute discretion; or

(b) where the Club seeking to exercise the recall has only one Professional Goalkeeper available (applying the criteria set out in Regulations 57.1.1 to 57.1.3 below). The recall will be subject to not less than 24 hours’ written notice.

A goalkeeper shall not be permitted to resume any Standard Loan following the exercise of a recall.

I remember when Walton was recalled from Luton after Maenpaa's injury at Lincoln that it had to be in the transfer window.

That was EFL, I see no reason why the EPL would want to have a different rule.

The difference there was we still had Stockdale fit so had to complete the recall within the window. The emergency recall rules in the EFL only apply when you have no fit goalkeepers.

He might well be according to some but the club seem happy for Steele to be our 2nd or third choice and last season extended his contract to June 2023 so my hunch is he'll remain in the squad 25.
