Kilroy has been taken off air after his column in the Sunday Express last Sunday when he basically said all Arabs are a waste of space. The jist of it is he said Arabs and Arabs states contribute nothing to the world in terms of science, medicine, inventions or anything that improves the way of life. They are suicide bombers, oppressors of women and just spread hatred.

They should be kissing the feet of the West and America in particular for improving their lives with all the benefits they have given them and not want to blow them up.

The matter has been referred to the Police and he may be done for inciting racial hatred.

Never liked the guy.

And I can understand why the Beeb would fire him. He did actually claim that Arabs in general spread hatred and oppress.

Well, there are two issues here - after the Gilligan affair, the BBC has insisted that its presenters avoid making 'controversial' opinions in their newspaper columns, without prior authorisation. He has clearly broken that rule.

As for 'inciting racial hatred' - his article CONTAINED racial hatred. He always was a prick - now he has proven himself a racist prick.

BBC halts Kilroy for race 'rant'

The Kilroy programme will be suspended from Monday
The Kilroy programme will be taken off air immediately following comments made by Robert Kilroy-Silk in a newspaper article, the BBC has announced.
The presenter branded Arabs "suicide bombers, limb amputators, women repressors" and asked what they had given to the world other than oil.

The BBC stressed the comments did not reflect its views as a broadcaster.

It said the BBC One programme would be suspended from Monday while it investigated the matter fully.

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) described the piece written by the discussion show host in last week's Sunday Express as a "gratuitous anti-Arab rant".

Mr Kilroy-Silk's article included comments saying the toppling of despotic regimes in the Middle East should be a war aim, and questioned the contribution of the Arab nations to world welfare and civilisation.

He referred to how Arabs "murdered more than 3,000 civilians on 11 September" and then "danced in the streets" to celebrate.

Reported to police

The MCB secretary general Iqbal Sacranie wrote in a letter to BBC One controller Lorraine Heggessey that Mr Kilroy-Silk had failed to distinguish between the terrorists behind the 11 September attacks and 200 million "ordinary Arab peoples".

Mr Sacranie condemned the "bigoted and ill-informed ideas" in the piece, which he said was "ignorant, extremely derogatory and indisputably racist".

Hours before the suspension was announced, Labour MP Lynne Jones urged the BBC to "consider the position" of Mr Kilroy-Silk, who is not a member of staff but works for the corporation on a freelance basis.

She tabled a Commons motion denouncing his comments as "racist".

The Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) reported the matter to the police.

CRE chair Trevor Phillips said: "This article is indisputably stupid and its main effect will be to give comfort to the weak-minded.

"However, given the extreme and violent terms in which Mr Kilroy-Silk has expressed himself, there is a danger that this might incite some individuals to act against someone who they think is an Arab."

BBC guidelines

BBC Breakfast will continue for an extra half hour, to 0930, while Kilroy is off air.

BBC media correspondent Torin Douglas said the issue was so serious the investigation was likely to be considered by the governors as well as senior managers and editorial policy.

"Many people would see it very hard for him to continue with a programme that deals with current affairs matters having made such comments," he said.

Only last month the BBC tightened up guidelines regarding presenters writing for newspapers, particularly about current affairs or contentious issues.

Mr Kilroy-Silk owns the company that makes the programme

Always thought he was a wanker and now he's proved it.

He's only been suspended for the moment, but let's hope the racist scumbag gets his marching orders soon.

The news that makes it out of every country is hardly ever the nice stuff.
If this person had an education regarding the Arab World, and perhaps ever even attempted to get to know anyone from that part of the World, he should not make such a sweeping racist remark.
Why is an ignoramus like that given any voice whatsoever?

I think there far too much slagging off of the USA on here and in general and they do contribute hugely to the world including aid to poor countries which is higher than the rest of the world combined and he has a beef about Arabs denegrating the USA and despising them but he has made his position untenable when he is a host of a programme that encourages views from a multi cultural spread of people.

What have the Arabs ever done for us?

Well apart from writing....
and farming....
and civilization....
and our system of numbers....
and large parts of modern science.....
and beer :drink: ....

but apart from that? NOTHING!!

He may not have said that ALL Arabs did those things, but he did say that our attitude towards ALL Arabs should be based on what SOME of them have done.

Just think about what you would think of an Arab that said that all Britons should be treated as, say, murderers, because some have murdered and some have celebrated the fact.

Well, we can't check as the Express doesn't features up on its site but the tone does seem to imply all or most Arabs, rather than the few hundred that might have been involved in 9/11.

And as for Arabs not contributing anything to the world? Most mediaeval advances in mathematics and chemistry came from the Arab world - including the concept of zero

Yes, in effect he did. He didn't say some. He made a sweeping generalisation. "Arabs are suicide bombers and oppresors".

Not only that, they preserved much of the knowledge of the ancient greeks which could have been lost forever during the dark ages. And they channelled much knowledge from the far east to Europe through trade.

And even if they had done none of the above, it would still be an insult to millions of decent people to brand them "suicide bombers, limb amputators, women repressors". The Beeb did the right thing to suspend him. Looking forward to the grovelling apology.
