I’m not sure who you mean by “his mate”. My take is slightly different. I totally believe what Bozza has said, but that includes the fact it was due to inaction rather than “an action”.

RDZ wanted a bigger squad (we were still in Europe with a stack of injuries and players away in Africa and Asia) rather than a specific player. We may just have offered him KDH and Barco. At that stage we still had Gross, Gilmour and Lallana who could play that advanced role, but no pivot. We were also three wingers and a right back down. I’d have been underwhelmed, frankly.

It also doesn’t make sense that KDH was an oven ready deal with the player happy to come here in January, but by June he’s only interested in staying at Leicester.
Maresca is RDZ’s pal, what was strange in January Maresca spoke like he was resigned to losing him, RDZ did the usual he’s not our player etc and then nothing happened.

Shame this deal got out in the open, which is pretty unusual for us as we seem to be able to deal under the radar. With so many comings and goings on the admin side it does make you wonder how they are going to keep control of private information and processes.
When we sign a player no one else is interested in from a small South American club then it appears that way, the club are never going to keep a biggish deal quiet especially trying to sign a player from another PL club.

He must of been on the top of the Albions wish list if we went in twice for him.
Maybe. Maybe not.

Maybe this pushes us to spend a little more and KDH was the "cheaper if we can get him" option.

I'm sure we have multiple other options - and if we don't why not ?

Plus who we are scouting is now a concern for all the PL clubs, it's a way to get in on the star lizard algorithm.

One of NSCs most predictable phenomena.

We don't land a moderately high profile signing and all the moaners gather round the corpse of the deal and peck away at the club.
Okay, but for the 3rd window in a row the club have identified the right signing in a critical area, tried to sign them and then seen the deal collapse completely. In the previous 2 windows no secondary targets were then signed instead. We simply carried on with a weak squad. People are reasonably worried that'll happen again and that the club are really pushing their luck now.

What do you mean in the previous two windows "no secondary targets" were signed instead? Who are all these players that joined the club in the last 12 months then?

Also its not 2 windows of course. Most likely the club has failed to recruit some of its targets in every single transfer window. Just like every other club out there.

Will be interesting to see if Hurzeler has enough coaching equity to coax a few talented prospects over the line, but suspect like RDZ he'll build that equity with us and the model of coming to us to grow in the PL shop window is back where we are until Hurz grows that reputation.

My frustration is that we are in a unique situation which I fear we won’t take advantage of. On one hand we have a number of clubs that need to sell in the next 48hrs and on the other we have just reported record profits.

We seem to fail in the execution stage and saunter around transfers so much.

I fully expect us to have made zero signings by midnight Sunday.

We seem to fail more than we succeed in the last 12 months.
Get a grip. The only reason these deals don’t go through is that Tony Bloom has a limit to what he will spend his money on and if another club is bidding higher then we miss out. The recruitment team are only playing by Tony’s rules and they have done pretty well for us overall.

What people seem to forget is that when we signed Caicedo he was a nobody. When we signed Ali MAc, he couldn't get in the side. When we signed Mitoma, people said "Who the f is that?".

We already have the next Caicedo, MacAllister and Mitoma at the club and we've probably also signed the next ones after that. That's our model. We can't complete on wages with other prem sides (because we are trying to be sustainable), so we need to be smarter.

Yes, we didn't get KDH when it looks like he was a target, but there will be others - it's still incredibly early in the window.

And as for the "FFP cherry picking" we were going to do? Well that won't materialise because the perennial cheaters in the PL have found a new wheeze to get round the rules - swap deals!

Just because I have a authentic opinion, suddenly I'm a palace fan. Get a grip fellow.
Nope, not 'suddenly'. Your posts have almost always been of the same ilk. I simply do not believe any Albion fan, with us at the best point we've ever been in our history, could be so negative. So sorry, put me on ignore or whatever but I do not believe you.

We haven’t signed any nobodies in midfield for ages

Who are they then? We only have so many players on the books. Say specifically who you think will be developed into that level, or even close, of player.

Your just parroting the clubs PR and ignoring the players we actually have. It's true we went through a period of signing lots of unknown gems. That production line seems to have slowed massively and we've not added many decent young players at all recently. To say we have two generations of high class midfielders waiting in the wings is very, very questionable. Do you also think the background staff are as good as they were 2 years ago? This list of unknown top talent to replace everyone has not worked out recently.
Yes, we didn't get KDH when it looks like he was a target, but there will be others - it's still incredibly early in the window.
We spent a minimum of 6 months actively pursuing him. He was almost certainly top of the list. Will we sign a secondary target? Hopefully but I wouldn't say definitely.
