I've been on a tour of the ground. Doesn't mean I was approached to be manager.

So I was told at the time, by somebody I'd trust to believe it to be true.

But no - personally I thought him taking the job was very unlikely - both then - and now.

Maybe he just paid to do the tour? The club have pushed it quite hard on social media.

I'd wager some fans of the clubs we've plucked our exciting youngsters from would think us vultures, in those transactions we're the big club swooping in for their assets.

As for the Potter upset - for me personally it was more to do with him gutting the backroom on his way out. But more generally speaking - football fans are an emotional bunch. There's always going to be anger or sadness when someone moves on. We were basically dumped by our bearded girlfriend.

I don’t think we are in some terrible situation but the club have made a rod for themselves with all the chat about list of people to take over certain key jobs. To some this implies that one person leaves with the next to come in sharpish. It hasn’t been like that

Head of medical leaves - replacement not due to come into until pre season
Head of recruitment leaves - temp replacement in place but presumably someone else will come in
First team coach leaves - taken longer than many expected because of all the chat about the magical lists.

Even on this bit though, he didn't gut the backroom team. He took with him two staff, Bruno and Roberts. All of the rest were staff he brought with him to Brighton in the first place and you expect to leave with him.

My issue was more that those two chose to leave rather than with him for bringing them, and even with Bruno, he wasn't guaranteed a job under RDZ who brought about 15 coaches with him...

Yeah that's fair. I think it's the Bruno thing really. That one still hurts a bit

An Ipswich fan on the radio said he didnt think he would come to us as we are looking for a coach and McKenna is a manager. Maybe that’s what came through when we spoke to him so both sides decided not to progress

Could well be true. Imagine Kieran wants his own players as opposed to being given players to coach. Its a big difference in working terms.

I know. What is wrong with people? Do people seriously think that because someone is number one on that list that all the club have to do is contact that person and they magically appear? Life isn't that simple. Even with RDZ, if he was indeed top of the list and when they contacted him he said "no thanks" then they move down the list. And lets say McKenna was top of the list and they had done a bit of sounding out, there is nothing to stop him changing his mind or getting a better offer. That's life, just calm the f*** down everyone.

Not sure what the Ipswich fan is on about though. McKenna is a coach, he's coached at Spurs and Man Utd. Just because he has a title of manager at Ipswich doesn't mean he no longer coaches!!

I also note he had spells at Spurs and Vancouver whilst he was studying, both teams featuring on PB's CV!!

None of us knows the truth, but I have always suspected that this succession planning thing is merely a potential wish list and when someone actually leaves its still a case of seeing whats available at that moment rather than some super master plan swinging into action.

a bit of smoke and mirrors me thinks.

RDZ being available and willing was more luck than judgement.

But the smaller the club the more responsibilities he will take on. He's worked at Spuds and Manure so he'll know the set up. If he's ambitious then he'll move to a bigger club.

But currently he is with a premier league club and has been given a lot more responsibility than most coaches. He isn’t working in L2. I’m sure he will move to a bigger club when he feels the time is right, assuming things continue to go well for him

I think the difference is we keep and update analytical data on targets; I don’t think all clubs do, but I dare say we had a full scope of RDZ’s teams and methods before Potter had even cleared his desk. Doesn’t mean they’re available or will want to come, but that is what is going on in the background.

Perhaps the best thing is if you say what you think McKenna does as a manager that RDZ wasn't expected to do?
