We're only still 5th as a result of freak results last 3 games. Need to make some changes tactically and players

I also don't like the 'keep the faith' phrase itself because I associate it with Adams's second run where it seemed to be associated with people burying their head in the sand and ignoring obvious problems.

We are a work in progress, pretty well every game has been exciting, we've topped the league, we've had a decent cup run, we have a wonderful stadium and most of us are gonna be dry in the cold wet winter. OK so we have been on the end of a couple of disappointing results but we have had such a mega year that it would be greedy and unrealistic to expect it to continue without the inevitable low points of being an Albion fan..

Well said. The low times make you appreciate the highs even more. This is why even a genuine Man U fan surely can't feel the same winning a 3rd title in a row or whatever than an Albion fan winnig league 1 after being shockingly shit for 2 yrs previous!

Oh Acker man cheer up! Keep the Faith reminds me of Adam's first spell etc TBH! Nobodies denying we have faults that need sorting - but wee're never gonna be perfect and Gus is the man to sort the problems! Problem solver!

Agree with this. Most teams go through a bad run. I just hope our next home match won't see a drop in attendances from the plastics.

Expect it to, although parts of the east stand have looked half full regardless of the opposition this season already.

A few (hopefully) faith-keeping points:

1. When we were in this division in 2002/03, who were the team we were battling with to avoid relegation on the last day of the season? None other than Stoke City. Now they're a top 10 Premier League club and enjoying European football. I'm not saying theirs is the model to necessarily follow but amid all the exciteement of a quite incredible August we mustn't lose sight of the fact that the key mission this season is to stay up - then build on what we have over the summer.

2. It looks like one of those crazy years in the Championship where everyone beats everyone. No one really pulling clear and everybody vulnerable. Of course it's important to make sure we're not the ones left without a seat when the music stops but the key point seems to be thst pretty much anyone can beat anyone. Put a decent run together in October and we'll be right in the thick of the playoffs going into November/December. Even patchy form should see us confortable in mid table.

3. We're still in the playoff zone. After one point for 12. That's amazing, isn't it? For the record I think we'll finish about 11th but it's exciting to be where we are at the moment.

Just as the international break wrecked our momentum last time, this time round it's an opportunity to put a disappointing month behind us and get stuck in to Hull and give ourselves a springboard for the rest of October.

We were always going to have an iffy run at some point and for me Hull is now the biggest game of the season - stop the rot and build a bit of confidence and we'll all feel a lot better about things.

I don't like losing. I don't like shifting 9 in 3. But, we are on a learning curve. It doesn't hurt as much as Tuesday.
Gus will make the necessary adjustments. He's our man with Tano.
I was concerned that Chopra scored twice from the same position.
But it'll be alright, long term.

REALISM, people!!!

If there are less people they've at least paid for their tickets - they'd be silly not to go though. I really don't think there are many 'plastics'. A few thousand maybe, there's many returning Goldstoners and i'd say 10k who were fairly regular Withdean attendees. I think the gaps in the East have been down to a lot of kids season tickets and parents not bothering to pass on the tickets due to how cheap they were etc. Plus several evening games hasn't helped.

As I said on the other thread we were playing against Chopra / Bullard / E-Thomas etc today - AWAY - f*** me if you'd told me that 2 yrs ago i'd have laughed - let alone people acting like it's an unthinkable result to lose 3-1!

I dont think people are thinking were unbeatable. its just the manner in which were getting beaten that bothers me.

Don't forget where we've come from people... We were always going to lose some games and remember how tough this league is. We've been smack in form since March 2010 ish - that's a year and a half and this is our first mini slump.

We're staying up which is the main thing - just enjoy the season in our magnificent new home and don't over react :smokin::ascarf::amex::moo:

Keep the faith :bhasign:

this is spot on

How many teams have conceded 9 goals in three matches, 3 goals a match. we must be one of the worst teams now for conceding goals in the league and it'll only get worse.

Bristol conceded 9 in 3 (1, 3, 5)
Nottingham have done it twice (2,3,5 / 3,5,2) (from run of 2,3,5,2)
Ipswich (1,5,7 / 5,7,1 / 7,1,2) (from run of 1,5,7,1,2)

Hopefully,el-Abd will be fit soon & last season's rock solid defence will come back.Dunk has done very well, but he wasn't there today,so until we have a solid defence unit again we will struggle sometimes.Onwards & Upwards UTA!:bhasign::)

I think these couple of defeats, whilst always painful to take at the time, are actually a good thing for fans and players alike, as it's hopefully going to make people realise that the start we've had was way beyond expectation.

If you look at the results, before the season started, I would have taken a point against Leeds, Pompey, Bristol City, Blackpool and Cardiff. Now out of those 5 teams, we've only dropped 4 points which is an amazing feat considering that only 1 of our back four(painter) have played in the Championship before.

I'll agree that the Palace result was bitterly disappointing and this game alone was the first time since Poyet took over that I felt the tactics were wrong and the players didn't try. However, today was also going to be a tough match as some grounds you go to expecting to get beaten because of past records against certain teams. Our record at Portman Road, having won there just 4 times, is truly shocking and I wasn't expecting anything from today and that was even before I realised Chopra, Bowyer, Bullard and Sonko(all players of top end Championship/lower Prem standard) were Ipswich players!

Sheebo is spot on at the top of the post that we must keep the faith and those of you who are criticising for losing a couple of games after a stupid amount of fixtures during such short period of time, against such a good team is expecting miracles!

Gus will take this break and use it to our advantage and even bring in a couple of new players who are unattached. IN GUS WE TRUST!

Again, all I hear with these sorts of threads and the whole "we're still 5th!" is "Sure, you're girlfriend is cheating on you, but last year you were single".

It isn't offering me comfort. Our position right now is irrelevant, our position come april 29th is the one that counts and the form we're showing over the last 5 games is not one that suggests we'll still be in 5th place then.

The way we play is promising just the results arent, only time i think weve beem bad is 2nd half to palace, even today we played well enough just 2 stupid defending errors but no keeper would have saved them, just to stay up was all is needed this season so anything higher than 21st is a bonus to me

I disagree. We played well second half v liverpool (though didn't really test reina), played well most of the second half v leeds (but switched off late, casper made a terrible decision to hit it long, then the four players who had a chance to stop the goal did nothing), played well for the first 20 minutes v palace. The rest of our performances has shown a lack of desire, a lack of hunger to win the ball when we don't have. Defensively we have been backing off and giving our opponents time and space on the ball to pick out passes and shots.

We can play well enough to stay up, even be top 8 come april, but we have not done so for enough of the last five games. Some would argue we've not played as well as we can and got lucky with other games (blackpool we switched off second half, portsmouth missed a last minute penalty, doncaster was a struggle for most of the game, we struggled past gillingham, peterborough had enough chances and had the better of the second half)

According to Gus post match, El Abd (and Elphick) are both not even close to returning.
