Keegan's not just a cock, though. He's also rubbish. What has he ever actually achieved, apart from getting Fulham promoted from the lower leagues with a budget 15 times that of his rivals?

2nd place in the Premiership including a 3-2 soccering of Barcelona in the Champions League with a side featuring flair-meisters like Tino Asrilla and erm Phillipe Albert?

Os 'snatched 2nd place, from the jaws of first', depending on your view?

Keegan is a decent bloke. When my son was about 5 he liked Newcastle (I think he had an idea there was an actual castle involved). We knew the Golf Pro at a local course - and Keegan was playing at at event there. The Golf Pro asked Keegan to sign a birthday card for my son. Keegan was of course happy to do so.

Then he suggested he take the card back to Newcastle and post if from there to give it a Newcastle postmark.

Hard to think of many other managers who would do that, let alone think of it. I am sure he has his failings like any of us - but he is a decent bloke.

Who else has threatened the top 4 in that time (without simultaneously fleecing their creditors)?

However you wrap it up, 2nd place is NOT failure. If we lead league one for the next 38 games but end up finishing second, personally I really won't care that much.

Although I must admit, I was expecting Keegan to fail this time around. Now we'll never know, and we don't even know why he walked out.

Different situation though - 2nd place in our league means promotion, so IS a success.

Obviously 2nd that year for Newcastle was good. It just should have been first, that's all.

Is still can't see that his over-all managerial record is ANYTHING to write home about.

Effectively forced out.
Something tells me Ashley won't be sitting amongst the fans again...
Does Ashley REALLY sit among the fans? NUFC fanzine editir on SSN last night talked about Ashley sitting there in his Newcastle shirt with a load of security guard 'mates' (in Newcastle shirts as well) so that he doesn't get bothered by any 'real' fans

So too is 2nd in the Premiership. That's qualification for the Champs League without having to qualify.

Indeed not. Although Newcastle fans will only care what he's done at their club. There are loads of managers who have only done the business at a minority of the clubs they ever managed. Alan Ball is the best example I can think of.

Keegan is a footballing Cavalier. If you want to get excited by football he is your man. If you want your team to shut up shop - don't recruit Keegan. If you want your team to have a go - his teams will do it for you.

Success of course is measured in trophies - would your prefer to win with Allardye or finish second with Keegan. I know what I'd prefer.

I don't think he will be for the next few games.
