Something tells me Ashley won't be sitting amongst the fans again...

Can't see him sinking any glasses of pungeant, cloudy yellow-ish 'wine' that his (now former) terrace chums will be offering him either.

he quit...you dont get a pay off when you quit

I guess his lawyers advised him it was okay due to constructive dismissal.

I used to have a little passion for Newcastle in the late 90s, when they were taken on Manure for the title. But ever since then, its gone down like a downward spiral. Mike Ashley doesn't know what he is doing, and he should go now!

Ashley ruined Lillywhites as well. It used to be an ace shop......400 quid tennis rackets and crochet sets. Now is it affordable sportswear...invariably in navy or white.

oh, are you serious?

I'm not saying they'll win the League or break into the Top 4 but their fans can feel safer from relegation now than for many years.

I expect both tems to finish comfortably midtable.

But for an amazing Liverpool comeback in the last 10 mins they could have won 3 out of 3.

Tey're also scoring goals. In August alone they beat Yeovil 5-1, Darlo 5-0 and Sparta Rotterdam 6-0.

Downing, Wheater, Alves, Hoyte, Huth, Aliadiere - all good players and Southgate a decent manager. They are better than WBA, Hull and Stoke and won't go down.

You can never count on 'boro to get a result, they will be there or thereabouts come may i assure you. Unless Alves lives up to his price tag, that is.

I don't understand why is Mike Ashley getting slaughtered. He isn't on the board, he just owns the club. He appointed a board to make decisions and the bloke who actually appointed Wise (surely the big problem here) left 6 months ago. Ashley is just like you and me - he made a shed load of cash, bought his favourite club and appointed people who supposedly knew better to run the club.
I feel for him a bit.

Spot on. Boro fans are quite bullish this season and a top ten finish isn't of the question. I still think Alves will prove to be a class signing.

Wise's position is untenable, his part in King Kev's departure is well documented and the fans want him out. Ashley will have no option but to sell the club. He has committed the cardinal sin - the removal of THE legend!

Anyone thought that hats off to Keegan for making a stand despite the money but sticking to his principles of being able to manage a team he put together, he brought the players in he wanted and he built a team around that. He has had to put up with players being tranferred he wanted to keep and working with players he had no involvement in getting in and if the results went badly Keegan's arse would be whipped.

He has made a bold stand about the stinking mess premiership football is in. Legend before even more of a legend now.

I'd love to know the truth though. If he didn't like Wise's appointment then why has he left it 6 months before walking out? And if he thinks he should make all player transfer decisions in this day and age, then I think he's being a dinosaur to be honest. The truth is that bung merchants like Redknapp mean that no manager will ever have sole charge of the purse strings any more. Afterall, we're talking about budgets of up to £100m a season nowadays.

The thing is though Sim, whilst a manager can no longer control the purse strings, he MUST still control what players he brings in to the club. Once he's identified them, then the suits should go get them, and if appropriate decide what they are prepared to pay.

Similarly with transfers out. The manager decides who is surplus, then the suits get the best price they can.

This situation would be acceptable to any sensible manager. Having your best players sold without your knowledge is a ridiculous situation, and one that no decent manager would tolerate.

Still think Keegan is a cock though.

I would certainly go so far as to say that the manager should be *consulted* before players are bought and sold. But the fact is that these days most of these big clubs have complex scouting networks and if they find a player for £1m but think he could be worth £10m in 2 years time, it really shouldn't matter what Keegan thinks if he hasn't seen the player or even if he doesn't want him in the first team yet.
I don't disagree with you that a first team manager MUST be involved in the process, but all this "I'm the boss and I wouldn't have that" bullshit espoused by Redknapp this week is simply laughable in this day and age.

Yes, yes he is. And he explained Keegan's flounce as "I wouldn't have that". If that is Keegan's reasoning, then he too is a complete cock.
