I can’t find any evidence that he sanctioned the Church Street car bomb. It was carried out by a couple of members of the ANC but nothing to say that Mandela approved.
My understanding of the situation is the bombings were indeed carried out by the ANC, and what isn’t disputed is that Mandela was giving orders from prison with regards to other actions taken. Whilst it’s never been proven he ordered this terrible event, it would be unusual for him not to know about it given he was receiving daily updates and relaying messages through sympathetic guards.

He was certainly involved with violent rebellion, and only became a pacifist after his release along with a strong and well-funded PR campaign.

I didn’t live through those times in SA, so I’m only going off the biographies I have read, but the saintly Christ-like figure painted doesn’t match the man he was in real life, particularly in his younger days.

Nope - nothing about a car bombing in that report - and I use the word report in the loosest possible terms.

Clearly support for the environment lobby has grown hugely over recent years.

It's JSO and Instinction Rebellion that have failed to win over the public.

Spot on.

Environmental concerns are currently high on the average persons concerns (behind certain things), but not to the extent most people are willing to make signficant lifestyle changes.

This is why Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil fail.

No matter what they do, they cannot influence enough people to want to change.

In the end human behaviour will have to change. Right now we're in the "Don't look up" phase.

The earth will survive but the jury is out whether humankind will. We as a species haven't been here long, the poorest will be eliminated first.

in reality humankind will carry on just fine, despite the hubris of these individuals thinking they are saving us all. honestly they sound like a cult.
the worse case scenario is some population migration and changes to society. if one thinks its great to become more homogenous people, less tech and enegy dependant, this is surely good. if one thinks this isn't great plan for our future, then things are not good. and perhaps if more made on this point, it could encourage this group to change their ways? difficult messaging that.

I was sent an invitation to become a FRSA 20 years ago. I told them to do one. This is not a prestigious fellowship, like FRS. This a money making load of old bollocks.
They seem shady to say the least, but doesn't change what he's said in the thread being accurate on this case.

I had the misfortune of coming across this video.

Her first line is to complain that her daughter is now missing her brothers wedding, how about those that have missed weddings etc due to her actions?

This attitude is why people are happy they have been jailed.

Why can’t Rupert delay the wedding?

I see a lot people on here cheering the authoritarian actions of our courts thanks to draconian laws brought in by the Tories.

It’s all OK until someone gets banged for something they feel is worth fighting for.

Sentences longer than you get for GBH and rape, but here they all are feeling righteous.

People who fight risk being banged up. There is no place in society for violence.
