Not sure if that's what the poster was saying. Must admit I lost the thread a bit. But the initial sentiment, that we tend to seek solace and validation within our self-chosen bubbles, is absolutely correct, and is the root cause of our toxic politics.

I took it as another sneery ‘I’m better than you’ type comment (a theme with many on this thread).

Wasn’t worded like that but considering I was talking about work (random) places and random people (customers buying cars) as examples it is also not any self chosen bubbles. Was an old quote, no point posting on this thread as people can’t answer yes or no questions as the facts invalidate their extreme views tbh… and showed some poor twisting of a serious subject (which luckily the poor fella saw right through and PM’d me about funnily enough!)

Still, we’ll all be dead in a year or two so no point arguing about anything on here

im all for renewables, its locals that keep objecting to solar and wind that's the problem, planning law needs an overhaul. have to point out we are doing more than our bit despite those objectors, with second largest offshore wind production in world. if we're honest, solar at our latitude and weather is mostly for subsidy farming rather than meaningful contribution to power generation.

I'm referring to all fossil fuels. My original post said that getting our energy from renewable sources is cheaper - I should have said cheaper than fossil fuels not oil so apologies for that.

If you insist on new, then absolutely, but thankfully (due to the heroic early adopters who took a chance on a new technology) there is now a second hand market of Renault Zoe’s, Nissan Leaf, BMW i3 and Tesla’s out there. There’s even Jaguar I-Pace’s out there for a decent price if you simply must drive a tank with the performance of a supercar.

China are now leading the way in introducing renewable energy as well as heading up re-foresting efforts. They are showing what can be done when there is the politico will to do so. Like every where else still a long way to go, but at least the Chinese are taking this crisis seriously.

The former usually don't like protests like this, because they care a lot about themselves (or single individuals and their personal experiences), while the latter usually like protests like this, because they care about people who are not themselves (or single individuals).
Today, individuals are affected by the actions of the collectivists from JSO, and other individualists won't like that. But you'll be delighted to hear that tomorrow, the collective will be affected by the actions of the individualists, and won't be happy about it. Unfortunately you won't have much time to celebrate, as your individual freedom will kill us all shortly after our collective issues really begin.

Didn't we learn from lockdown that life without individual freedom is thoroughly miserable and disproportionally affects the mental health of youngsters?

Protest corporations all you like, I'm all for that, but I think individuals need more freedom at the moment, not less.

they are efficient for a very narrow use case of getting air upto about 20-30deg. they are useless for maintaining higher temperatures, boiling water, baking foods, melting glass, smelting metals etc.

There goes my plan to install a carbon-neutral blast furnace in my back garden.
