Mortgages are rarer than Rocking Horse shit so I am getting some cards printed up " Rent Boy for sale " and am about to put them in some phone boxes in Kemptown.

It's about time you got a proper job anyway ..................

seriously though, i know quite a few brokers and they are all extremely worried about the future, the knock on effect this is going to have is going to affect so many people, for example, builders merchants are not supplying anything like what they were, as pretty much all the sites have stopped building.

Consequently manufactures to the building industry are all slowing down, like any recession, in time it will affect many people in the country.

Thanks to everyone for all the best wishes, they are appreciated, and i wish anyone else in my present position all the best

I don't think he meant anything by it. At least, I read it as 'sounds rubbish that you've lost your job'. Hope that's what he mean't anyway.

Sorry to hear the news, hitony. Hope you manage to get other stuff sorted soon. I take it you're getting a pay-out?

It's all a bit nervy in the media, too, to be honest. If there's a recession, the last thing people need are silly magazines, so a few redunancies are forecast in media / pr over the next few months.

Good luck dude

Is this the same media that has caused 50% of the problems with their endless doom and gloom stories and house price horror crash stories and reporting everything and twisting every statitistic into the worst possible interpretation causing a self fulfilling prophecies of doom and gloom and house price crashes ???

I am looking for work in London Doug, in fact i will move anywhere if the job dictates that, we have no loyaly to Wales, in fact it was work that bought us here some 25 years ago.

Hi

Just a thought, but as 2010 deadlines draw nearer, there may well be some lucrative contract work available here soon, if you fancied a somewhat different working environment!!

I know a major lender who are offering a decent package for brokers who can do the mortgages and cross sell the life cover and other insurances. Was offerered it last week and was half tempted to relocate because there is the square root of sod all happening in these parts and I reckon nothing will happen until next Summer at the earlies.. I am also considering speaking to a couple of people I know , one sells top range cars , the other a sales manager at Orange. If this job went shit up I would like to stay in sales. I doubt anyone in any sector is recruiting at the moment however.

It is far more severe than in the early 90's , certainly in my sector and estate agency those sectors are likely to be devasted in the next 12 months but across all sectors a major recession is here and here now.

In the 70's and 80's the governments arguement was to sit tight and they limited public pay ( or tried) trouble is the inflation figure we are using is hopelessly inaccurate compared to people's budgets.....also the Gvt this time have a prefect excuse..."its the world's/india/china/USA housing markets problems",

What this govt fail to tell us is that is is making money hand over fist whilst the oil prices go up.....they cane it from the suppliers in duty, the motorists in duty and tax, our customers as we are still a supplier. So basically Brown doesn't care a jot...why should he? You just have to look at the smug polititions on Questiontime etc.

Once the summer is over and the public sector start striking and rubbish is piling in the streets and the railways close down, that is when it will get hairy!!!

Sorry to hear of this Tony......hope you sort things out. I know it is a trite comment but one thing I always stuck to...never move for a job!!!!

Do you think those in the financial services industry might have something to do with the mess we are in, possibly, just a bit?

A sole mortgage broker plying his trade and working his nuts off wondering where the next deal is coming from , no.

If you mean the top 5 banks and the top 5 lenders who rode the back of the USA lending and booming economy funding non status adverse lending at 95% in an unregluated environement where the 2 criteria were did you have a 5% deposit or equity ? - Yes, do you have a pulse ? - Yes, the mortgage is yours .

Which has now gone sour as people never had the ability to repay the mortgage and house price falls of 20% leaving millions in negative equity and repossessions meaning our great financial institutions have written off billions of pounds which means we have to pay for it as they will not lend to good people here and if they do the give crap mortgage rates with huge arrangement fees, yes the financial institution is to blame.
