to be fair its got sweet fa to do with the government. just like the last 10 years of growth.

now inflation, and their intransigence on fuel prices to alliviate the problem is their fault and will probably end their time in office.

Still a shitter of course, but at least you get to enjoy the summer, if you're going to out of work best time for it

I appreciate your opinion...........I am not to sure there is a good time of the year to go out of work when you have a bloody great mortgage to pay, and all the other household bills that go with it.

Obviously you have my sympathies but there is not much our government can do about unscrupulous American mortgage lenders. My job is heavily reliant on the Financial Services industry and in particular large mortgage providers. As FWY put it - squeeky bum time all round I'm afraid.

Sorry to hear the bad news Hitony, I'm in Construction and had a similar experience in the last recession. It's a case of going where the work is, and the London Contracting market is still buoyant with a dearth of experienced Construction Professionals.

Thanks Starry, i am (or was after today!) the Regional Operations Manager for a major housing developer, my background is senior site management

Hope you get something else sorted soon, thats shit news at any time!

I guess Housing Development is one of the major losers at times like these, nobody buying or selling houses and housing projects being cancelled all over the place. Bloody yanks!!!

As I write it seems you have 15 mins left.

It must be great to know that banks taking a gamble on risky borrowers has led to this economic situation, and that their profit-grasping failure has led to you having more time with the family.

I hope the situation resolves itself in your favour.

All the best.

Tone, hope you have a nice weekend and can see some light somewhere at the end of the tunnel. The worst thing about being unemployed is all the utterly useless if well meaning advice you get, just grin and bear it.

Best of luck.

That's just it. It isn't just the Yanks. It's us as well. Our banks have made stupid investments, too many people have spent all what the have earnt and not saved. Yes, I know we all aspire to a certain standard of living, but as a country we can't afford it as we aren't very productive.

Look at the amount of personnal debt there is on credit cards, car loans, mortgages. The 'boom' under Labour has been financed on what? unsustainable house prices. No-ones been complaining about spending their 'profit' that they have made on their house going up in value after remortgaging.

I have very little sympathy for those who haven't been sensible. I do have sympathy for those who have lost their jobs and maybe facing severe hardship if it's not been their fault. Too many people tried to get rich from soaring house prices, and a lot of these will get burnt now.

Over the last 4-5 years, I've worked very hard to reduce my mortgage down. I could have had a more extravagant life-style, but I chose not to. I can now weather whatever happen and be OK. I just hope that this is a wake-up call for a lot of people, and the mentality changes away from the spend, spend, spend culture.

I also fear that this is going to get a lot worse before it improves. There will be more job losses, leading to less spending and more home reposessions.
