Ever thought that possibly the way we played made them look crap? I wasn't there but it's a possibilty...

No, they were just extremely shit which made us look a bit better than what we actually are

Great to see Kuipers run all the way from his goal-line at the end, right down in to the opposite corner to celebrate with the players, and some fans who got on. Don't think he got booked either.

Man of the match either McLeod or Whing I'd say.

Both played exceptionally well I thought.

Kuipers had f*** all to do all game.

Virgo looked quite good in midfield and took his goal very well.

Just got back to Scotland.

Thought McLeod looked class, Forster worked very hard and deserved a goal. Elphick and Hawkins played well individually but did not look a complete partnership (but that shouldn't take long) - Crewe's goal was their fault.

The team look organised and no nonsense. Early crosses, good thought out set pieces and plenty of hard work.

Role on the rest of season.

I had Hawkins as my MOM today, dealt with everything really well IMO. Had Calvin Zola in his back pocket who I think would have been a real handful for Elphick.

Not a bad start, we created a lot of chances which was nice to see but could have been caught out once or twice. Not sure about Virgo in midfield - seemed a little lost at times but quality header.

Crewe were AWFUL though and will be surprised if they dont finish in the bottom two if the league is of a similar standard to last year. The only player who was any good was the Left winger (grant?) the rest were shite.

Not been long back meself (overtook the team coach on the M40 just after Oxford and gave them all a toot). Anyway, I thought we were terrific today - it was noticable that we FLEW at them right from the off, no signs of those dozy, lethargic starts under Wilkins. They were all up for it right from the first whistle, and Crewe hardly got a look-in, we completely imposed ourselves on them. Cox and McLeod gave them all kinds of problems, Whing was terrific on the overlap, Forster and Murray worked their bollocks off with some intelligent running and dropping off to receive. Virgo and Thompson completely dominated the midfield and never game them a second to settle on the ball. Hawkins was immense, first to (almost) everything, save for a scare in the first half from one free kick. Elphick was solid, but just needs to cut out the "Hollywood" balls he was trying to spray around, they never came off.

Yes Crewe were piss poor, but our sheer workrate saw to it that they never really got going - our lot were literally first to EVERYTHING all afternoon. We looked a yard quicker and were far sharper, on another day we'd have had that game wrapped up after an hour. A point for Crewe would have been daylight ROBBERY, so all credit to the team for putting them straight back on the back foot after the equaliser and eventually forcing a deserved win.

VERY encouraging start

I've quite a few comments saying they'd "vowed never to go to Gresty Road again" - I didn't think the ground was too bad at all, admittedly Crewe its self is but isn't everywhere up north a bit GRIM.

Hawkins was immense today, my MOM and lead the team. Looks like him and Elphick will play well together. It was a good all round performance in particular Whing, Thomson, Forster, McLeod and Cox at times however McLeod does seem a bit static and possibly lazy sometimes, and I can't remember many of Cox's crosses/impossible long balls finding their targets very often. I would prefer to see Livermore instead of Virgo in that position too tbh

Easy

At least we will never hear this phrases in the post match interviews with Hawesy again

" We worked hard at that aspect of our game all week in training. The lads were given instructions and knew exactly what their jobs were. I am at a loss as to explain why we started so poorly "

Crewe were really bad, but our workrate made them look poor, I liked the fact that we were out there early getting warmed up, no messing around not sure who the guy was who was taking the session but it looked well planned and was in complete difference to crewes warmup where they just seemed to pass a few balls around and looked lethargic. Onto the game Hawkins was immense and too me seems a better version of Cullip. Cox was told to get crosses in and that he did, Forster is just a class act head and shoulders above anything we have had down here in recent years. Thought Murray worked his socks off and chased everything and never gave there defence a moments peace.
Overall if we had only got a point it would of been a travesty.

I think cox was the worst player today, simply because he can't get any good balls in.... I also think we should find someone who has a bit more pace on the delivary of free kicks as I allways get the impression cox can only float the ball in

The Gresty Road area did look a bit like a poor man's Portslade, but the ground wasn't so bad and the result was excellent.

We should have scored a lot more goals, and how they managed to get on the score sheet is a source of amazement. They improved to dire in the second half, though they had a couple of decentish looking players.Unless there are even more poor teams about it's going to be a long old season in Crewe.

Interesting to see Kuipers coming out early for the second half so that he could warm up again. He had nowt (that's northern for nothing) to do,and had no hope with the goal once the defence ignored Zola and the fact that the linesman has to raise his flag and the ref blow his whistle before it's offside.

I'll hazard a guess that Virgo goes on to get player of the season

Livermore will most likely feature in place of Mcleod for some games - in a similar way to how Adams never normally played both Jones and Brooker in the same team

Last time I was scouring the fixture list as keenly re future games, was in Virgo last season when we stayed up in the Championship

Crwod average could well be the highest ever achieved at Withdean - when Adams was last here was all sell outs at 6,600 etc - since we went up to nearly 9,000 capacity we have only managed over 8,000 once I think?

No, Zola was definately NOT offside. From looking at their goal on the Championship today I think some of the blame must go down to Whing (although apart from that I thought he had a good game). The other 3 in the back 4 had moved up but he, on the right, played Zola onside. You can see Richards appealing for offside as Zola breaks free not realising his fellow full back had played him on. You couldn't really see this from where I was standing yesterday

Mind you if the midfield hadn't been lying so deep for the previous 10 minutes, in irritatingly typical Brighton style, perhaps Crewe wouldn't have had such an easy opportunity to play Zola though.

This carping isn't really fair though because although Crewe looked poor (apart from Zola, Grant & the keeper) we played well. Hawkins may get found out by some quicker attackers but he was really solid yesterday. Cox does seem to have been told to get more crosses in, but at times he did this too much - a couple of times Forster was remonstrating with him to play it short to feet rather than crossing it.

Very pleased for Virgs, he almost got a second with a long shot in the 2nd half. He did fade as the game went on though and I wondered whether Micky might bring Livermore on. Great captains goal from Forster at the end and a nice flick on from Murray to set it up. The defender marking Forster for the goal looked really slow on the TV this morning - thank God.

I've been determined to keep going to Crewe until we win. That's done now - but even if it wasn't we may not be in the same division as them this time next year.......
