Why would you loan him? He looks a great impact player off the bench.. he's getting stronger, hes exciting like Sarmiento, facundo,Ferguson, he's improving and he's great morale for the whole squad!
The way I see it it's about having the right number of attacking options

I'm sure RDZ will want at least one of his own attacking players, likely two. Adringa is making a case. Maybe we'll lose Welbs, likely we'll loan out Undav

Sarmiento and Ferguson are nailed on for a squad place next season. I think Adringa, Enciso and Buenanotte, are likely competing for two places.

My perception is that players like Zeqiri, Khadra and probably Sima are behind all of those and will be sold.

I don’t get why so many NSchatters are negative about loans. It was the same with Connolly a few years ago. It’s not a failure or sleight on a player’s talent, it’s a positive development step.
Enciso would need to reach Mitoma level pretty quickly to justify not going on loan from Brighton. Is that likely? Well, he does produce the occasional piece of quality but the consistency and team awareness are weaker than his team mates.
Six months at Union should do it. That didn’t work out too badly for Mitoma.
Good post - very much agree. Enciso has played in the first team, and shown flashes of class - very much he same situation that Connolly was in, and we all know now, with hindsight*, what a big mistake it was not to send him out on loan a lot earlier than we did. The only thing on which I disagree with you is where to send him - not USG for me, but somewhere in England, to get used to English football; Championship level, I would say - although scoring 25 or 30 goals in League1 might not do him any harm either!
Of course, it's for the club to decide, not us armchair wizards on NSC. One factor that might figure is that if we do qualify for Europe we might want to keep a bigger squad around the place.

* I said, 'in hindsight', but just to blow my own trumpet for a minute, I was crying out for Connolly to go on loan when he should have!

I thought we already had Welbeck signed up for next season? Agree that Zeqiri and Khadra's loans are to put them in the shop window, but I'm not quuite so sure about Sima - we paid quite a lot for him, I believe, and he's had a shocking time with injuries since he signed for us, and has become almost the forgotten man. If he can stay fit, I would guess next season is make or break time for his Albion future.

Do we need to allocate a squad place to Under 21s? I thought there was no limit on the number of those who could be involved?

Not to say you're wrong re: Enciso going out on loan, but I always thought the issue with Connolly was that we became over-reliant on him as soon as he broke through. He played 24 PL games in his first season in the first-team and after his Spurs debut he scored 1 in 23. Rather than be taken out of the firing line, we just kept throwing him in and hoped that he'd start replicating his U23 form.

Personally, I think the way RDZ is using our starlets as options off the bench rather than relying on them as plan A is creating a good environment for players to settle and continue to develop (believe it or not, Ferguson has only started 4 PL games this year). On top of that, For a young Paraguayan kid, not getting shipped out around the country within the first year or so of moving across the world is probably something that will help him focus and develop.

But that is exactly the point - instead of playing those 24 games for us he should have been out banging in the goals, probably in League1. Then he might be playing for us now!

agree he is a different style to the others , more direct and happy to shoot on sight just what you need if you are chasing a game when intricate play is not breaking down the 11 men behind the ball.

Welbeck signed a new 2 year deal last summer, I can’t see him going anywhere.

Just wondering - those are the regulations for the PL for sure ............ but are they the same for European competitions? (if we get there!)
The rules are different for European games. It’s nowhere near as straightforward as the PL squad rules.

Of course, but I was talking about the optimum number of players you have in the squad. We're far from Chelsea, but we don't want to have young players who have played league and international football but feel like they've no chance of getting in. A loan is better under those circumstances. But then if we're in Europe, of course we need more players

Why would banging in 30 goals in League One make him good enough to step up to the Premier League the following season? He may have gone to a League One side and not scored there, there's no guarantee that he'd have made the grade if we'd sent him on loan. Aside from Ivan Toney and Billy Sharp it's very difficult to find a top scorer from League One who went on to make it in the Premier League (and Billy Sharp only got 6 in two seasons in the PL).

He should've been integrated slower, taken out of the side when he stopped scoring, and given some kind of protection as a developing talent, rather than the answer to our goalscoring issues. I think we've learned from that and are doing things differently this time around.

Jamie Vardy did it - and so did Ian Wright, Andy Cole, Harry Kane (via going out on loan) ..... oh, and some chap named Glenn Murray. Bobby Zamora didn't do too badly either.

That's a very long time ago. Some would argue it's a different game, especially at League One level and scoring loads as a teenager at that level is no easy feat.

Also, Ian Wright never played in the third tier, neither did Jamie Vardy. Andy Cole made 13 appearances barely scoring leading to him being dumped by his parent club Arsenal.

We should've done better with Connolly IMO, that may have been a loan, but his subsequent loans and issues off the pitch imply that perhaps that wouldn't have been the answer unless we'd found the perfect club for him - a gamble for every loan move.
