The report on the club website says he's joining up with the first team squad when they report back for pre-season training. That means the work permit is not an issue, he wouldn't be allowed to train with the club unless he had one. He may still go out on loan but it won't be for anything other than experience and game time.
Hasn't GP already said he’s part of the first teams attacking options for next season?

Yes, but that doesn't mean things won't change. If he's not featuring in the first team match day squad regularly come January it may be decided that a loan move for experience and game time is better.

Having read Andy Naylor's good article this morning, and having watched a show reel, I think he'll stay. My reasoning is:

He is very versatile, being able to play attacking Mid, or on either wing as well as centre forward - this will make him perfect in our current squad. He also presses well, which helps.
He is 2 footed - and seems comfortable shooting (and scoring) with either foot - the sort of players we want in our squad.
The BIG one - the 5 sub rule this season mean Potter has many more options to make changes and give youth even more of a chance.

He (along with Alzate) will get a lot of opportunities this season.

We saw the 5 sub ruling being used very well by Potter during covid, very much to our advantage. It gives us a chance to 'swap out' pairings in midfield if needed.

5 subs is perfect for Potterball, as you say we saw it work during Covid matches

A bit odd that the club are allowing (if they’ve approved it) so much noise before the signing is public, but as paulie G says it’s colossal news in Paraguay - he’s their golden boy. Given we’ve now got Ecuador and Paraguay sewn up, suggest someone starts looking at Venezuela, Peru and Colombia for our next big wonderkid signing :D

and Argentina

It should be very easy to help this kid settle in. There can't be many clubs in Europe (outside of Spain) where he'll be training and playing, (and hopefully socialising) with so many Spanish speaking youngsters - and most of them South American Spanish.

Ale Mac, Caicedo, Alzate, Sarmiento, plus Sanchez and (fingers crossed) Cucurella, all 24 or younger.

Also I think at his tender age and coming from another continent they will want to support and nurture him somewhat rather than just pushing him immediately out on loan.

It's a huge step for any 18 year old, but especially so for one having travelled half way round the world. I know many others do the same, but I for one suspect he will be kept in and around the U23 and 1st team squads to acclimatise to the UK and Potter's training methods.

I think he’ll be around the first team squad. I think they’ll see that as sensible given he’s a Spanish speaker and there’s loads of young Spanish speakers at the club. I suspect at least one of the youngsters who got on the bench last season- Ferguson, Offiah, Turns, will get a decent loan. Would be great to see Ferguson in the Championship.
But with the young Pole, Mitoma and Khadra all there or there abouts it is quite congested. Not to mention a fit Sarmiento.

Maybe just maybe it’s a bigger deal over there than it is here and they are excited on a national level?

Expecting some news today

Absolutely. If a Swede from Allsvenskan would sign with a PL club for £9.5m it would be a crazy big thing. Probably even more in Paraguay as they haven't had a lot of international success and star players through the years. I imagine they see this guy as the biggest thing since Roque Santa Cruz.

So do we know if it’s definitely just 4 years or 4 plus an option on 1 more year which was mooted as a compromise on what was the only sticking point?

The club website says a 4 year contract. There is no mention of an option of another year, although I've seen it mentioned on twitter.

I am going to be very disappointed if he doesn't get 30 goals and 40 assists this season. Lets set the expectation as high as possible. :p

Probably Neal Maupay as well since his mother is Argentinian.

He absolutely does speak (at least some) Spanish. I only left him off, because I was listing the ones 24 and younger.

Also Bruno will play a big role, of course.

Surely he won’t have enough points to play for us yet?

Maupay's bottom lip will be even more curled over now, this news has ruined his beach holiday, and he is at the bar hitting the red wine in a pint glass
