We can aim as much vitriol as we like. But ultimately she is a product of a society of which we all play an equal part.

Pretty much this. She is a product of a Wannabee society where instant fame is regarded as success in life and a ticket to the good life. It's a sad world that we have now.

So this is the Jade Goody generation. Say something completely stupid and controversial. Then make some money out of the media. Seriously, are some of those quotes for real e.g “People ask me what I’m craving and the answer is Smirnoff Ice!" or “An abortion will further my career. This time next year I won’t have a baby. Instead, I’ll be famous, driving a bright pink Range Rover and buying a big house. Nothing will get in my way.” Then this beauty, “I realised it would be at least a year before I could do any glamour modelling if I went through with it and, in my opinion, nobody wants to see a naked pregnant lady."

Imagine being her Father. She'd make me want to put my head through a brick wall.

But surely you are part of society. If your point is that you don't share her standards and values, which it most likely is, then all the better. What I am trying to say is that, when a society produces people with her type of psychology, it should question itself as to what it has conceived to encourage this.

For me, we need not look too far.
Your intimating that I have some input into 'this society' and so am somehow responsible. So by your rationale I am somehow responsible for paedophilia, murder, fraud and everything else.
No doubt those who watch that sort of tv programme are encouraging it but I don't and discussing it on here is not promoting this women is it. Society has always had its freak shows. I don't go to that circus.

Whilst not the ideal role model...having an abortion for the sake of a career may have been done before, and not just by the poor and stupid.

I would say 'may have' happened before is underselling. I am certain it has. It's a snobbery that her career is celebrity and reality TV. If she was a successful Barrister, or successful business woman etc, who happened to decide that she didn't think now was the right time to have a baby so exercised her legal right to have an abortion, people wouldn't be up in arms about it (other than those who oppose all abortions, of course).

Being pro-choice, I'm not going to get all worked up over her and her decision.

I'm sorry, but if you have the money for a high end escort wouldn't you go for a looker? She just looks like a slaggy MESS

Also, she is clearly a horrific human being but has been created by the culture that has been created by the media and programmes just like big brother. She will make a hell of a lot more money out of this than she would have if she had just gone on big bro and had the abortion quietly. She is being pretty clever about it (in terms of business and maximum exposure)

You do have input into society simply by being part of it, to suggest otherwise is to somehow undermine your own value. As regards the things you list, such people are ultimately responsible for their own actions.

But It is possible to condemn the actions of a person, yet question exterior influences that may have supported, facilitated, or ignored their motives at the same time. However unwittingly. I am not foolish enough to suggest that can be done in all cases, even the majority of the time, but the first post in this thread is one such example.

I know (this is general, not referring to you) that hunting for the latest bogeyman to vent our frustrations and vitriol on is a trend the tabloids have instilled as natural. But for me it is a symbol of how society is missing opportunities to make better, whilst somehow indulging itself in a false piety, as if to somehow justify its own standards as, at a minimum, better than someone elses.

And thus the underlying causes that lead to such angry outpourings rarely get addressed, similar articles continue to appear, and the cycle goes on.

I don't understand why people read this drivel, let alone get rabidly moralistic over it.

I have no idea who Jessie Cunningham is.
I read the first couple of lines, decided 'this isn't for me', and closed the link, end of story.

Exactly.

This story is self fulfilling tabliod media dirge. Who knows what her true intentions are, it's just the gutter press printing car crash pornography to pull everyone's strings and sell papers.

These people are part of a sub-culture. They do not represent the society I see.

I or any of my friends apart from Vegster on here - who loves a bit of handwringing - could name a contestant from Big Brother or any of the other freak shows on tv that seem so popular in certain quarters, so I don't get this argument.

Am I responsible for these non-entities ? No I am not.

Now that's just nonsense.

Fair enough. I respect that. But I think that the part we all play is often conditioned by what we are taught to think about our own roles. Once it becomes apparent the hierarchy in society is a mere construct of previous generations then things have the capacity to change.

Questions is going to be mightily cheesed off when he finds that someone has hacked his account and started talking sense.

I think that the difference between Ms Cunningham and a Barrister or successful business woman is that the latter two wouldn't announce the decision to the media.
