we have 2 front line strikers with Andone returning in the new year, we allegedly wanted to only loan Boulaye Dia - King isnt likely to get a CL or even europa club in England now (his only options) until at least Jan. (they've already bought)
Maybe then there would be CL suitors - Muff could still sell in Jan.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity for us - a Short term loan till Jan, possible with an option to buy? It gets King off Muffs wage bill, it gives him top level football which he deserves, it gives his agent a chance to work on a deal with a european competition club that starts in Jan, by when we get Andone back or we can move in the Jan window ourselves.

Bit of outside the box thinking it really could be a win, win, win for Us, King and Muff

On the face of it that makes sense but with a 3-month loan you need the player to hit the ground running. Where will his head be now after just missing out on his move to Man Utd in an earlier window, then getting relegated? I suspect if Albion were minded to do a deal they'd want King for the whole season, just in case Andone and Zuqiri don't work out or there's an injury to one of our other forwards.

Problems with that is that Muff wouldnt entertain him leaving on a free so it would have to be with a buy clause (which we possibly wouldnt entertain at 30 years old).

It also means King has to give up on his european dream, which I guess he may not like much either.

A short term loan would give us vital cover of decent PL player, keep King's options open and dreams alive and still allow Muff to get him off the bottom line with chance of decent sale.

Anything else may well have at least one reluctant party which would torpedo it. Id guess King would prefer to be here in the PL till Jan earning 45kpw than there in the championship earning £27K.

It buys everyone 12 weeks and covers a lot of issues for all 3

I haven't read the whole thread, and sorry for pissing on everyone's chips, but the elephant in the room here is that he wouldn't come to sit on the bench and it's Maupay and Connolly who suit "Potterball". Sticking it in the onion bag really hasn't been our issue, it's conceding immediately afterwards that is the problem.

Bluntly, we need back up. Obviously, there is a problem if we get injuries but I think that's why Swiss Andy has come in and Potter is talking about "attacking options" rather than strikers. King won't come as a back up.

I don't see this happening, nor do I see us signing another striker from the EFL.

I think they'd be over the moon to let him leave on a free next summer if he committed to this season, banged in 15 goals and got them promoted - he has the ability to do that.

If Potter wants to play 352, or 343, that will use both of them most often...... If (and ofc I dont expect it will happen!), we had King........Between the 3 of them, they would all play a part in most matchday squads, if King gets injured hes sent back and we're no worse off than we are today, if Connolly or Maupay get injured, we'd have a very capable player to come in a preserve the system until Andone or Zeqiri are up and running.

I don't think he would come and sit on the bench every game, maybe some games and when he was, he would be a perfect sub if one of the other 2 isnt playing well or gets injured in the game - some games he may start with Connolly or Maupay on the bench - as quality attacking sub options.

It could work, but we wont do it, we'll more likely fumble on in blind hope of no injuries, with no genuine attacking CF options from then bench if we play with Connolly&Maupay

Posted my thoughts 3 mins before the Ashworth thread but he appears to back up what I'm saying about "attacking options". He talks about a front 4 moving to a front 5 - Maupay, Connolly, Trossard, Ali J and now Swiss Andy. Plus Andone as an optino when he recovers from injury. We won't be seeing an addition to that.

Hey, as I've said on the Ali thread. if he can bang them in regularly against top half PL opposition like he did against Pompey and Preston I'll be both delighted and wrong.

There's absolutely no doubt that in his first season and a half he was too lightweight and slow. It's pretty obvious that when he gets time he can finish, and that he has the odd worldy in him as well. Potter has done a lot of work on all the players, coaching wise. and if he's got that consistency in him and got his body condition right it's win all round.

I’m not one who is desperate for a striker and would rather we remained prudent BUT if he is available for only £10 million and his wages aren’t ridiculous then we should be all over that.

I'm sure Josh King or Danny Wellbeck will be expecting £100 000 per week which would probably make them the highest paid players in the club.
The club aren't going to jeopardise changing room harmony for supposed superstars rocking up in Ferrari's who aren't necessarily going to make a definite impact.

No of us know the clubs commitments but we must be close to the limit.

According to various website chatter and pretend ITK, King is on anything in a range of £45 - 65k per week, more likely closer to the £45k. In the present climate I'm not sure why he would be expecting more than that.

The player may well be happy to take his salary until next summer and see if the market is much improved for him as a free agent. That has it's own risks if he were to sustain a major injury.

West Ham according to today’s Telegraph.

“West Ham have opened talks with Josh King over a move back to the Premier League.

The Norway international, 28, has also spoken to West Brom over a £10 million transfer but David Moyes is in a good position to land the Bournemouth forward.

King wants to return to the top flight following Bournemouth's relegation to the Championship, and has so far this season played just 23 minutes as a substitute.

Moyes has bolstered his Hammers defence with Vladimir Coufal from Slavia Prague and also made Tomas Soucek’s loan a permanent deal. The EFL domestic window extension allows him to still move for players in the lower tiers.

King has been targeted following Felipe Anderson’s move to Porto. Grady Diangana also departed over the summer leaving Moyes in need of attacking reinforcements.

King missed the start of the Championship season following an injury suffered while on Norway duty earlier this month and Bournemouth are willing to let him leave for the right price in the final year of his contract.

Aston Villa made a move for him during the summer window and Tottenham had him on their list of options too, but went for Benfica’s Carlos Vinicius instead.

West Brom are also interested in King. Slaven Bilic desperately needs a striker with Hal Robson-Kanu needing surgery on a broken right arm.

King was the subject of a bid by Manchester United in January before they ended up with Odion Ighalo. This month they snapped up Edinson Cavani on a free transfer.

King started out at United as a teenager and had loan spells at Preston, Borussia Moenchengladbach, Hull City and Blackburn before his move to Bournemouth when they reached the Premier League.”
