Not a complete waste of money at all.
He gave us entertainment, important goals and points. We may not have stayed up without him.
Agree, beggars belief that someone can describe as a complete waste.

Was he a record signing at the time? I forget.
Not his fault, but proved to be a complete waste of the money.
The transfer market is a total gamble. Win some, lose some.
We lost this one.
Same here, At first glance it seems to me his knee issue got so bad as we were playing him until the end of the season (through necessity) when he could have done with ending the season early and going off to have his knee op.
Watching his goals video... we've so missed that flair player who's all about pace and trickery. An attacking player who scares defenders, and makes them back off us.
Our priority signings should be a striker, left back, and an Izzy type winger.

IMO Knocky (and Izquierdo though hes been injured) was the one player we had left that would actually run at defenders and try beating them with a piece of skill, rather then trying to pass or hit the ball past them and run.
The trouble is, the Premier League version of Knockaert, most definately didn't, (or maybe couldn't), run at defenders and try to beat them with skill etc. as you put it.
Whilst he set the Championship alight with those amazing runs of his, his game changed completely once we had gained promotion.
Possibly Chris Hughton's doing in his desire to defend first and foremost, but he hasn't regained any of that earlier scintillating form since he moved on, either with Fulham, or Nottingham Forest. Maybe he is being played differently, but maybe he just isn't capable of reproducing it now.
Hopefully he finds another good club, he had moments of magic for us but ultimately never quite fulfilled his potential.
I still remember my jaw dropping seeing this live!
We haven’t replaced him yet.
We haven’t replaced Knocky yet either.
Where is the player to get us onto our feet? Create the buzz? Lamptey maybe. A flipping right back. We wonder why ‘where has the Amex atmosphere gone?’ threads start.
Our team is becoming frustrating to watch bordering on boring, not one player takes a risk. That’s coached.

So is it the players or is it coached? Because you are stating both...
No he stating that its coached out of them.
We don't currently have a player who can work the magic - Trossard is close but subdued by having to carry too much midfield work. Lamptey might deliver but we don't know if his finishing is up to it. I don't see any other player in current set up who will score the sort of goal that AK did against Palace or Izquierdo did against WHU (twice) or Stoke. The other player who might is Sarmiento but because of our teams poor performances against Norwich & Newcastle he has not got on the pitch.
Agree with this. Last player to run the show was Knocky at home to Manure. The junior fans of today must have a real quandary wondering what player to have on their replica shirt. Not one shirt seller in the squad.Part of me always thinks "cuts inside and shoots" whenever I think of Izzy. But, like Knocky, he did get you excited. Trossard has been playing really well but when he burst into our team as a super sub I thought he might be as good as mint-period Hazard. But it's all about team play now, Mavericks are no longer wanted, which I agree can be a bit boring and, while it's not really the case, it does seem somewhat coached out of players nowadays. Which is a shame really.
I think Argentinian international Gonzalez was the player to step in and take over from the likes of Izzy & Knocky. The club will simply not sign a player unless they have the sort of potential we see in the likes of Lamptey or Bissouma unless they are a veteran international on the cheap (Lallana, Welbeck & Veltman).
What they are doing is signing plenty of U23 players in the hope we find the next Gonzalez instead of having to buy one for £20m+.
Khadra, Mitoma, Sarmiento & Longman are all candidates for the 1st team squad long term. We just need some patience I guess because trying to sign ready-made players on our budget is incredibly difficult.
I think this will cost us a top 10 place this season but if we can start converting U23 goal scorers and attacking players into 1st team players in the next few years, we have a very bright future indeed.
That’s very expensive fishing rod to catch one decent fish.
