"I'm sorry that they feel that way" basically like saying "I'm sorry if you were offended" after saying something massively racist.

He has spit in the face of the LGBTQ+ community.
Also his quote of "I try to help people when they ask for it." i.e. wouldn't have helped otherwise.

"obviously the LGBTQ+ community. I can understand the frustration. I can understand the anger. I get it. All I can say around that is that I’m sorry that they feel like that."

Such a non-apology.

"I've done something that you feel has diminished my prior actions as an ally and that's unfortunate but you're feeling that way"

He's a dick. Category A dick.

Zero respect for him.
Non apology with a hint of gaslighting. ****.

Human nature is to justify your choices with all sorts of wriggles and rationalisation (just ask anyone in jail). His main job is to try and quieten his conscience over his material wants. Wonder how that pans out. Some people go the way of Ronaldo and Henderson, others the way of Mata and Ramos (also v well paid of course but considerably less than the Saudi amounts). I'm actually not going to judge him as I don't live in a glass greenhouse. But I do hope he gets relentlessly booed by fans if he plays for England again! Agree he should take the money and stfu rather than spout nonsense.

I’m always amazed Brighton got away with their winter training camp in Dubai. Or is it double standards ?

Perhaps we could put Henderson in touch with Sergio Ramos to understand what principles actually mean as he doesn’t appear to understand.

No. But people get similarly outraged about Qatar / Dubai don’t they ?
But the club shouldn't be accused of double standards based on the possible thinking of "people" should they? That would make no sense to me. The charge would have to be more specific than that. Otherwise it is best to ignore.

Whenever anyone says "it's not about the money", you know that it's about the money.

Henderson is clearly trying to push his narrative that's at odds with the truth, but one that conveniently assuages his conscience.

It's not so much sitting on the fence, but more trying to be on different sides of the fence simultaneously.

Gary Neville was skewered by Ian Hislop on HIGNFY about his decision to take the Qatar money whilst trying to enact 'change'.

Henderson deserves the same. As a footballer, he should know that he can't play for two teams at the same time.

It’s a bit hypocritical to pretend to be LGBTQ+ friendly, celebrate pride month - yet decide to take the team to a place that don’t hold those same values.

Would they take the women’s team there for a camp for example? I know England did (once)

If he'd said, yeah the money was insane, far too much to turn down, even if it does compromise the moral standpoint I've been championing at Liverpool for so long. Then I'd have gone, you're a c***, but at least you're an honest c***. The answers in this interview are just appalling, should've just kept quiet.

Most interesting was the reference in the comments to this article, which is revealing (gay sex is more common that you'd expect in Saudi because men and women just can't get to spend time with the opposite sex unless they are related):

Number three is an interesting one because even I – as someone who can't contain their indifference about the national team – know that players don't have to be playing regularly for their clubs to get picked by GSouth!
