My four year old son has been learning Spanish for a few months now, but all he can say is the word "please".

That's poor for four isn't it?
It depends. If all he has at his disposal to learn the language are text books then he'll have had to learn to read first. And maybe "please" was then the first word he picked up from that text book.

If what I surmise is correct, you'd have to say that was pretty reasonable progress and you should probably get off his f**king back.

After all, it's not the bleeding Spanish Inquisition. Or is it?

Send him off to a Spanish boarding school.

He can be some Juan else's problem.

Which reminds me...

My next door neighbour is Spanish. He's a fireman by trade. Recently his missus gave birth to beautiful twin boys. After careful consideration the proud parents decided to call them José and HoseB

I think he’s doing ok, tbh.

Unlike my kid - I sent him to a school that’s supposed to be great at teaching French.

But on day one, rather than starting with “please” like your kid did, they apparently threw him straight into acting out some polite drama piece.

Me and the wife were furious. We’d hoped for “please” in French, not this civil play nonsense.
