November 29th last year, unbeknown to the public, Johnny Depp spent four hours at Londons Great Ormond Street hospital reading stories to children there, dressed in his orignial Captain Jack Sparrow costume from Pirates of the Caribbean. He returned there yesterday and donated a million pounds of his own money to the hospital in thanks to the staff for saving his eight year old daughters life when her kidneys failed.

THAT, my friends, is a CLASS ACT.

I bumped into him at a Sheryl Crow gig a couple of years ago with Ms Paradis. A bit on the shy side but he did have the courtesy to have a brief chat before disappearing backstage.

of course him going back to give up his ££££ wasn't cunningly arranged to coincide with sweeney todd. but still it is a million pounds the hospital didn't have before and that is all that counts.

This is a great thing for him to do and he should be applauded for it.

But it should not be forgotten that thousands of others up and down the country make amazing sacrifices for equally worthwhile causes but don't get the recognition for it. for all the unsung heroes.

absolutely fixtures. my daughter was in a hospice before she died and a dear old pensioner couple would come weekly and give £20 from their state pension to the hospice. every week, without fail. i've never forgotten that.

lily rose and jack go to school in this country, would think he is in the uk far more often than he is out of it.

he is one of your neighbours these days, i think they tried to get them into clifton and failed.

Regardless, it's neither here nor there in what others are trying to say which I also concur with: it seems to be a great gesture from Mr Depp, and I'm probably more impressed at his story-reading, arsing about antics to cheer the kids up than the cash donation.

but yeah wonderful gesture and all that. and like i said above he is certainly not teh only one who does it, but hey some kids had a happy day and the hospital has a nice chunk of change they weren't expecting. win win.

Hollywood is full of brats with missing and selfish parents, and taught that money is all that matters in life.
