The great escape

In real-time it looked like he'd been kicked, later replays suggest there was no contact in which case he should have stayed on his feet instead of playing for the free kick. They probably wouldn't have scored their goal if he'd stayed on his feet and chased back instead of rolling around on the ground like he'd been pole-axed.

I've allways rated John Terry but that is not what I want to see.

John Terry was our worst player by a long way last night. Not just the feigning injury bollocks when he bottled winning that ball, but the amount of times he was stood ball watching forcing Ferdinand or James to race in to clear the ball was unforgivable. Add to that the numerous occasions he played a sloppy pass, or decided to sprint 20 yards to push Cole out of the way and not control the ball.

Utter rubbish.

What do people think of Joe Cole's slapstick-type falling over biz? I know he got clattered by the guy's leading arm & got cut on his bonce, but was he trying to get the bloke sent off?

I think he was fainting, it's called concussion. Was horrible to watch. Not exactly Joe Cole's style to do a Rivaldo.

I'm not going to dignify this with a detailed reply, but that is absoloute rubbish.

Confused. Cos earlier I thought you said you thought he was play-acting, no?

So what if it was a free kick? The ref didn't blow for it, Terry should be playing to the whistle not going down pretending to be injured.

Like James did when he was caught out of the area, stayed huddle in a ball, waiting for a free kick, when the ref didn't, and play carried on he jumped up like a red hot poker had been shoved up his arse.

Exactly. He should have played percentages and just got his body in the way. Everyone knows that "studs up" and "dangerous play" is arguably the only area of the rules more contensious than offside. It's entirely down to the referee's interpretation. I don't agree with the referee on this one, but clearly in his view there was minimal risk of the boot colliding with Terry's head.

So I'm afraid Mellotron is talking bollocks.

Nah, I was trying to do the ol' 'Devil's Advocate' thing. Somewhat unsuprisingly, it all went tits-up. That'll teach me.

The worst part was he looked around to see the player take the ball past him and when he realised that the oponent had control of the ball went down like a sack of spuds, if he was wearing his blue shirt I am sure he would have turned around and tried to track back, possibly being able to cut out the square ball. He is supposed to be showing the example - bloody TWAT!

Never try to be overly intelligent on an internet message board.

It was blatantly a free kick. So I'm not really too fussed how John Terry reacted afterwards.

So you're happy that by rolling around on the ground, despite no contact, he practically handed Croatia a goal that they didn't deserve? Fair enough.

No I spose not. But I'd argue that he was in his rights to react at least when a boot comes at his head when he's already jumping.
