Really? I thought it was Martin Quittenton who played on that famous 'B' side "Maggie May". Was it Simon Cowe or Ray Jackson of Lindisfarne who played that mandolin part?
Apparenty Jimmy Page played on Rod's first 45 in 1964, so he was off to a good start. He'd also already sang alongside 'Long John Baldry and his Hoochie Coochie Men', which was Cyril Davis's original band before he'd died.
This was around the catalyst of blues in London that was fostered by Alexis Korner, and spawned Graham Bond Organisation (rhythm section which made up Cream), Rolling Stones, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers (see also Fleetwood Mac, Aynsley Dunbar Retalliation etc) and others.
