Fantastic songs (18 of them already played at Withdean) and certainly bands that peelie played/gave sessions to) but NOT a Peelie album.

That would have to have Extreme Noise Terror, The Fall, Half Man Half Biscuit, Death By Milkfloat, Cud, Mega City Four, I, Ludicrous, Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle, SPK, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Prag Vec, The Shend, The Residents, Half Japanese...etc etc etc
Cash in!

I like the mix ... but VERY 1970s!

No Tyranasaurus Rex or Early David Bowie (late 60s / early 70s) which is a bit of a shame.

Gotta love another chance to own such perfect pop moments as:

The Stranglers – Peaches
(the small thrill whenever it kicked in on Wunnerful Radio One - would they play the 'rude' version? Especially by accident)

Joy Division – Love Will Tear Us Apart
(could anybody ever tire of hearing that most haunting of songs?)

Jilted John – Jilted John
(prototype for Kev The Ape)

The Skids – Into The Valley
(first ever anthem?)

The Beat – Mirror In The Bathroom
(2-Tone's finest moment IMHO)

And the Faces of course!!!

He loved Rod and the Faces ... before Rod sold out with Atlantic Crossing!

and of course Peely played mandolin on the Top of the Pops cut of Maggie May (the mandolin player from Lindisfarne played on the original album track/single)

Its not their best track, and the remaining members of the band did MUCH better work as New Order, but Blue Monday would sound very out of place, and most of their less electronic tracks too new for that era of a Peel tribute album..

I'd have thought Isolation would have been chosen instead.

Doesnt seem to include anything from post 1985 on it. What about the Inspirals - Peely played them week in week out. I wonder who chose the tracks here - cant really imagine Peel playing the Alarm an awful lot.

As people have mentioned it's a bandwagon jumping marketing CD. I certainly won't be buying it as I have the majority of tracks already.

Any Peel compilation would have to take in something from the 1950s to the present day and include a huge variety of genres not just those from 1977-80.

Only one person would truly like all the tracks on an album like that and unfortunately he's not around to buy it.

Complete lack of drum and bass, hip hop and happy hardcore which he had a bizzarre love for. Peel always said the punks gave him as hard a time when he started playing rap in the 80's as the hippies did when he started playing punk. When he played the Big Chill festival, he took great delight in playing a happy hardcore set to a unimpressed chilled out ex ravers.

Peel was never just a punk dj, he just played the stuff no one else would ever play, including lots of obscure dance stuff, f***ing off the guitar facists.

dougdeep hits the nail on the head, a great album for driving to or what I am doing at the moment (waiting for my dinner to cook with the Clash - London Calling blasting out in the background), but not necessarily a compilation that Peelie himself would have chosen.

Won't buy the album myself, liked the compilation a bit further down the thread though so I might try to get that instead.
