What do you make of him? Is he a spokesman for a generation or just a ranting loudmouth who doesn't appear to have the ability to listen to other people's opinions?

Saw and heard him on the One show last night and thought he was still an opinionated twat, but then I've always though that about him anyway.

I imagine an evening out with him would leave you exhausted and probably in a punch up with him at some stage

Knowing NSC I expect opinions are pretty evenly spread?

I've always thought Lydon knows what he's doing and can see that being controversal = dosh! I think you need people like him to come long now and again to stir things up. I like quite a bit of his music too.

What was he doing on the One Show though - it's a bit staid for him isn't it?

He's obviously a very bright bloke and equally obviously enjoys winding people up.

I was a big Pistols fan and even liked PIL but I must say that I wouldn't fancy spending an evening with him - it would wear you down eventually.

He sold out when he was chasing Ostriches for stars in Australia.

Ever felt you've been cheated?

Just about sums him up during the Pistols days, he proved his point, the industry is gullible.

PIL was a different matter, a polished act, and his ability shone through, that first album is superb.

I've always thought Lydon knows what he's doing ...

I think you've answered your own question. There's no such thing as bad publicity (just look at Amy Winehouse), and prime time BBC is about the best way to get the public awareness campaign rolling and the cash flowing in that there is.

He's obviously a very bright bloke and equally obviously enjoys winding people up.

I was a big Pistols fan and even liked PIL but I must say that I wouldn't fancy spending an evening with him - it would wear you down eventually.

I agree. I also like the Prodigy, but I NEVER want to mee Keith Flint.

The industry wasn't gullible. They made far more money out of the Pistols than the Pistols ever did. No one got ripped off.

And what many people overlooked amongst all the "Filth and the Fury" was that they played some cracking good tunes. Even Mrs Trufflehound has finally come around to that - she used to hate it when I played NMTBs...

MM, yeah, see what you mean, I think what I meant was the public were gulible, but led on by an industry that had been taken for something of a ride in the first place by McLarens unusual approach.

Just don't tell him that, especially if you're black

John knows what he is doing and saying , although does contradict him self a lot.
And does some cringworthy things, ie the recent London bus tour guide.

Also keeps preaching the "England" is best etc, although won't come back and live here (Moved to LA in 79), he has actually lived in the states longer than here.

Have been a fan since the 70's, and been involved in pistols tribute bands.etc
went to all 5 Brixton Shows, ;last year and been twice this year, and will be going to the Appollo in September,, and will always go to see them if situations allow it.
And...........I'm on the cover of the the new "There will always be an England" DVD. :yahoo:
You will get the picture that i am a fan :D

But i don't view him through rose tinted glasses.

I saw the Sex Pistols at Brixton Academy last November and I have to say, Lydon put on a great show and was highly entertaining.

"They sold us down the river" he told us - not that he did the same himself when appearing on 'i'm a celebrity'.....

He's a hypocrite but a legend - long live LYDON!!

you wouldn't get passed Rambo:bigwave:

If you don't know, "Rambo" is AKA John Stevens, John's best mate, manger, hair stylist :O ( i kid you not) and bodyguard,

He actually looks i bit like john ans sometimes used as a decoy for John,
he is also a Wan**r and very unapproachable,

like the musuc but a class A knob, too contradictory, too in yer face, too much into the limelight for my cup of tea.

Having spent some time with him, I can tell you from first-hand experience.

A bit of a laugh at times, not particularly socially adept but has got a few good stories to tell (naturally I suppose, having toured the World with PIL, and met many music legends).
He thinks it's all about him (normal I suppose, for most lead singers!). Although having sensibly selected some of the best punk musicians available (John McGeogh, Lu Edmunds, Jah Wobble, etc) for his band, he doesn't care that anyone compliments their talents unless his ego is pandered to.
Of course he's in it for the money, that's the only reason for the Pistols re-union thing.
Alcoholic. Completely keeled after an interview one evening, had to load him into a reluctant driver's taxi (and he's effin' heavy) and give directions as to how to get him out of said taxi at the other end.
He's hiding behind the booze and the 'super-personality' front.....
Closet gay, so even if other people weren't bothered - it bothers him too much to confront. So he's an arse fan, as well as Arsenal.

I actually helped instigate the Pistols Reunion, after reading a snippet in the Mirror on a visit home (here) about them being offered 25million to reform. The Mirror were bullshitting, as it happened, as the Sex Pistols members hadn't even been contacted or offered anything by anyone.
We talked about it on his boat, which was a few yards away from mine (in Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles), and he asked me what I thought about the idea (after his initial indignation about the unsubstantiated rumour). I told him I thought it a "shit idea if it was about music image and history, but fantastic if you want to get a much bigger boat".
We talked about new material for the revival (which was my idea), but Lydon quickly dismissed that whole idea.
I got comped tickets to The Hollywood Palladium gig and watched from the vip area (next to 'Flea').
The band had obviously improved as musicians (not that their music was ever particularly difficult), and they played 'proper' long sets - instead of 15 minutes of mayhem before starting a fight. Initially, Matlock was the only person in the original group who could actually play an instrument.
It was strongly rumoured that the original recordings were done with Chris Spedding sessioning. Let's just say that when I brought that up, John did not refute it.

Is there no end to your Hollywood lifestyle NMH? Shagging models, massive pads and now the brains behind the re-union of the biggest punk band ever? The jealousy courses through my whole body. Plus you are a Brighton fan to boot, aaaaargh i hate you, i hate you, i hate you!
