John Lydon

what utter tosh, Joined in after it started and followed in the pistols wake.
In fact begged the pistols to get on the Anarchy tour.
were alway third best behind the Dammed

wise move, the media had focussed onto the Anarchy tour, a that time, there really was nothing between the bands, songs, musicians swopped, stopped and started,

Matlock was the man behind the majority of NMTB, the lyrics, music had already been established b4 he was kicked out and the album created. If I recall Matlock also played along with the Damned and the Clash for a while.

Matlock played bass for the Rich kids, Vicious white kids which was a backing band for Sid this being the last gig Sid don on UK soil, he also had bands called the Philistines, & dead man walking, but to my memory he never player with either of the Dammed or Clash. may have "jammed" with them as all the bands were very incestuous during the period.

More jamming, pub gigs, chilling than "album preparation".

I used to get Snigging Glue (mum threw them all out when I left home)

I am cetain I had pics of Matlock performing with Rabies and Mick Jones etc

Its Fact that Jones did the baselines, Matlock had already left before they recorded NMTB.
this was confirmed by Bill Price (sound engineer) and Chris Thomas who produced the album.
Fully know the history thank you, Lived and breathed it got over 30 years.
Also, all this recent racist crap being cited against him, Ari's kids are Jamaican FFS

Regardless of who they were related to, I liked those kids. They would skateboard along the front of the gated-community Marina City Club. As was somewhat predictable, the predominately older residents would give flak to them and anyone else who disrupted their normal pre-designed and securely predictable lives.
It culminated in John and Martin (his brother) playing NMTB while they sat on the balcony of their apartment, while security guards clambered up said balcony to try to force them to turn it down (because anyone who complains first, over there, seemed to be given the 'rights'). I happened to be walking my dog when it was going down, and it was the last straw for Lydon. He promptly moved out of/sold the apartment, and subsequently moved his boat from their docks as well.

The fact that many of those residents were charlatans and money-grubbers who'd got their money from cheating others or inheriting it, was irrelevant. I heard them being racist about (very nice) people who worked in the little market inside the community too.

Typo@s. Used to pick them up outside gigs, get back to Brighton, and use the school photocopier to pass them on.

I use to go up to London a bit for the gigs, and picked up later editions of sniGGing Glue from that shop off Tottenham Court Road, that connects to Oxford Street, it went on to form its own record label (hired SLF).

Funny old times

JL's not at all racist.
People who might say so, probably misinterpret from his book title "no blacks no dogs no Irish". He's also Irish, by the way.

Just to further the point, "no Irish no blacks no dogs " being the name of John's autobiography, was a statement given by all the landlords of properties in London around the time johns family came over from Ireland when asked if they had any vacancies.

could not say it now could you !!!

still see the odd "No travellers"

Quite often, the broken windows or Union Jack plastered around the place is also a good deterrent.

I actually helped instigate the Pistols Reunion, after reading a snippet in the Mirror on a visit home (here) about them being offered 25million to reform. The Mirror were bullshitting, as it happened, as the Sex Pistols members hadn't even been contacted or offered anything by anyone.
We talked about it on his boat, which was a few yards away from mine (in Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles), and he asked me what I thought about the idea (after his initial indignation about the unsubstantiated rumour). I told him I thought it a "shit idea if it was about music image and history, but fantastic if you want to get a much bigger boat".
We talked about new material for the revival (which was my idea), but Lydon quickly dismissed that whole idea.
I got comped tickets to The Hollywood Palladium gig and watched from the vip area (next to 'Flea').
The band had obviously improved as musicians (not that their music was ever particularly difficult), and they played 'proper' long sets - instead of 15 minutes of mayhem before starting a fight. Initially, Matlock was the only person in the original group who could actually play an instrument.
It was strongly rumoured that the original recordings were done with Chris Spedding sessioning. Let's just say that when I brought that up, John did not refute it.

Due respect and I thought you were just another miserable middle aged man with a chip on his shoulder :glare:

Anyway The Stranglers knocked the Sex Pistols into a cocked hat. Rattus Norvegicus and the magnificent power off that debut album in 1977 is something the Pistol could only dream about.

Bloc Party vocalist Kele Okereke was subjected to a racist attack at the weekend, by former Sex Pistols screamer John 'Johnny Rotten' Lydon and members of the one-time punk hero's entourage.
Okereke was attacked at the Summercase Festival in Barcelona on Saturday night; he was left shaken and with bruising to his face, cuts on his face and body, and a burst lip.

The attack, according to reports, was unprovoked. A witness commented that Lydon and company were at the festival "acting like a gang of racist thugs".

Trouble flared when Okereke asked Lydon backstage at the festival if he'd ever consider reforming Public Image Ltd, as the Bloc Party singer is a big fan of the seminal post-punk outfit fronted by Lydon. The former I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here contestant grew aggressive, suggesting that Okereke had a "black attitude", and that was a problem in some way.

The story goes that then Okereke was punched and kicked by Lydon's crew, albeit not Lydon himself, while Ricky Wilson of Kaiser Chiefs and Yannis Philippakis of Foals attempted to fend off the attackers. Security broke up the fight and Spanish police were duly informed. Okereke made a statement to UK police once home.

Over 50 people witnessed the Barcelona attack - alongside members of Foals and Kaiser Chiefs were Mystery Jets, Neon Neon and Har Mar Superstar, all of whom saw what unfolded. Of the attack, Okereke has stated:

"It's not an issue of the physical assault, even though it was an unprovoked attack. It is the fact that race was brought into the matter so readily. Someone as respected and as intelligent as Lydon should know better than to bring race into the equation, or socialise with and encourage those who hold such narrow-minded attitudes. I am disappointed that someone I held with such high regard turns out to be such a bigot."

Edit: Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals singer) has confirmed that the attack was unprovoked...read more.

Edit #2: Members of Foals were also injured in the fight...click here to read the news article.

Who knew it would take 3 pages of a conversation about music before a single genuinely talented artist was mentioned?

I'm talking about Flea by the way.

John Lydon = About as relevant as the Gallagher brothers (as in, not).

Was waiting for the above to be mentioned. Saw Foals at Latitude, they were not overflowing in praise for Mr. Lydon exactly...

The only real 'punks' in attitude/ideals/lifestyle were Crass. Everyone else were only in the scene for fame, money, drugs, or booze.

John Lydon .....? Famous for doing very little and having no manners and very little idea of televison ettiquette.
Swearing and being obnoxious is not a difficult skill to master, fortunately, and that is where his noteriety lies.
I'm sure he's famous in his head and that there will be the odd U.S. college student who thinks Lydon is the new Messiah and was subsequently ignored by all the true believers....

Zero, not a hero :tosser:
