I am thinking, if I were a club owner, I would be nervous about appointing a black manager, because of the shit that John Barnes is going to bring my way if I feel I have to sack him.
Imagine if Watfords last 3 managers had been black, the shit he would be giving Watford.

Last nine league games Hughton was in charge resulted in us scoring 3 goals and getting 3 points. We got over the line to avoid relegation but our trend was very much downwards. What does this have to do with race?

The Albion hierarchy are clearly not racist or prejudiced, all evidence in fact points in the opposite direction.

If ethnicity has to be dragged into the conversation about Albion recruitment and CH, the Albion signed a black manager in December 2014, awarding him new long term contracts in summer 2016 and summer 2018, then the football became dire, real attendances plummeted and to cap it all we became loss specialists. Fellow relegation candidates dishing out footballing lessons.

December 2014 to May 2019 was an age in the world of football, many great times along the way, but in the end sadly the owner and many fans had had enough.

I dont think any club owner gives a shit about what John Barnes says tbh. But sure, he is certainly not helping the situation.

Funny anecdote (perhaps not the best timing but anyway) about Barnes by the way:

Back in 1996, Swedish midfielder Anders Limpar went on a trial over at Liverpool and trained with them for a couple of weeks. All of Barnes teammates called him "Digger" but Limpar misheard it and yelled "pass the ball, n*gger". It was not very popular and Limpar didnt get the contract. Barnes apparently got traumatised for life.

And not just Barnes but others such as Darren Lewis who piled on in the aftermath of the sacking of Hughton.

What they do not seem to see is that equality of opportunity. as desirable as it is, must work both ways. Yes, of course a BAME candidate should have as much chance of getting a job as a white one. But they should be equally likely to be sacked if they do badly.

As you say, no owner should be under more pressure to keep an underperforming manager just because he happens to be black. Because if he thinks he will, then he is less likely to appoint that manager in the first place.

Still struggle to comprehend that Darren Lewis got away with his remarks.

I felt a bit grumpy about Barnes's comments - partly because he tends to be a bit incoherent - but when I read them all, I re-realised how ignorant I am about it all.

Barnes also claimed this week that if Klopp was black, he'd have been sacked within the first 2 years at Liverpool. This despite the fact they reached the League Cup and Europa League finals in his first season, and made the top 4 in his second.

I loved him as a player, such a powerful, graceful winger. But he has a race chip on his shoulder the size of Wiltshire, and sadly, it often causes him to spout bollocks like this. The very notion that CH was afforded less time here because of the colour of his skin is an embarrassing and outrageous slur. He needs to wind his f*cking neck in.

Whilst I’m not going to comment on society as a whole, the problem that football has with racism is that the people who speak out against it and are given airtime are utterly stupid.

Barnes and Lewis have already been mentioned but also Troy Townsend and Paul Ince fall into that category.

The way to get people to think and change is to make them listen and consider what is happening. Everytime that one of the above speak it just makes me think they are as ignorant as the rest of us.
