Bit unfair on hughes I think. He served his time without whinging and seems to be really regretful and contrite for what he did. Should he have gone for longer, possibly. But does he seem genuinely sorry for his actions, I think he does.

Why Millwall, in particular?

There were no kids involved by the way. It was three older people - a couple [the husband died - the wife was left disabled] and their friend. He got 6 years, and is out on remand.

Millwall played Oldham just before they played us - Hughes scored a match winning hattrick, which is probably not a good way to endear yourself to that particular band of knuckle scraping ferel muppets anyway.

Anyway, they hate him after that match. And I sympathise, because this bloke killed two, and maimed one - then RAN AWAY. And he served just 3 years inside for this shocking crime. I simply have a big problem with this.

I'm not saying that. What I'm suggesting is that hughes did the crime and, finally admitedly, fessed it, did his time and now shows genuine remorse. I believe he is now involved in visiting schools trying to stop children being the kind of idiot he was.

barton is a serial recidivist who has had countless chances and thousands of pounds thrown at him via that 'clinic' in hampshire to try to get him to change his ways and he still behaves like the out and out thug he is.

He's been lucky that's all imo.

But yes, hughes killed someone. My point is he is showing what I believe to be genuine remorse. barton dosesn't seem to give a shit about anyone.

Of course you're right, but playing Devil's Advocat, look at it this way instead;

Hughes; Made one [tragically serious] error of judgement. Hwever reprehensible his actions were in first getting behind the wheel after a skinful, and secondly fleeing the scene, he didn't deliberately kill anyone.

Barton; At least FIVE counts of assault ranging from common assault to GBH. each time, under whatever provocation he has chosen to answer with his fists [or cigar]. For someone like Barton these incidents will continue to be 'low level' until eventually somebody does die or end up seriously injured as a result.

I am sorry remorse genuine or not is not really the point, I actually think we all have personal responsibilty for any initial actions........

I am saying that Barton might be a thug, but I aint gonna worry too much about a guy either in a Mcdonalds Restaurant at 5.00am or a Chav Everton Teenager in a bar in Thailand getting an aggressive response to any inital vulgarity.

This reminded me about Matthew Broderick the actor (quoted);
