About to go into an interview for the post that is in effect my boss. Though I know the job inside out I am completly bricking it. Does anyone else get worried before an interview and if so what do you do to overcome it?

I've just come back from an interview! training contract at a firm of solicitors......I too was shite scared, but after a couple of minutes I relaxed and took a lead in the interview and everything went swimmingly.

Chill, and be yourself- you're obviously qualified for the position of they wouldn't be interviewing you.

I love interviews, my tip would be just to answer every question as honestly as possible and SMILE!

Hmm. Keep calm, and try and reflect this in your body posture. Don't close your hands together, keep them open or steepled and have your legs at a respectable width apart. Keep a decent posture, on the edge of your seat, maintain eye contact but not heavily- all these will make a good impression. Apart from that just be yourself, honest, open and clear.

Yup, I get nervous. Have a glass of water with you in the interview so you can give yourself little breaks, and appear relaxed when you're drinking water as they ask questions!

Also, positive visualisation really works for me. Before the interview, shut your eyes and think of the best possible scenario - that you were brilliant and got the job straight away. And before you go in, go somewhere quiet, and tense up and relax your muscles from head to toe, I find it really calming.

I normally interview very well once I get going. Though for some reason I am more worried about this one then normal. I guess it is because this is the first time for my current employer that I will have direct control over other staff.

That was my problem, dropped it over the person doing the interview. Never got the job:down:

I quite enjoy interviews. Be friendly and smile (unless you have a smile like Gordon Brown), answer questions honestly and be yourself. Ooo, and relax!

I don't get bothered by interviews but for a lot of not so good reasons I would imagine that few people here have had as many as me. As I only apply for jobs I know I can do I don't worry about that aspect. What does annoy me though is when I am interviewed by a time waster and I'm afraid I've had quite a few of those. If I feel that I am having my time wasted I tend to terminate the interview and depending on the reaction of the interviewer(s) I can do it politely or very impolitely !

Good luck anyway. Oh, don't try to think of the interviewer naked stunt as some of the people who have interviewed me would have made me violently ill.

It's perfectly natural to be nervous. They're expecting that, and so should you. In fact, the nerves only serve to heighten your awareness and therefore improve your performance. Most people fear something dreadful happening when they're nervous but, in fact, all of your body's systems are operating flat out to help you, so don't worry.

Take a few deep breaths and relax as much as you can before you go in. And rather than dwell on how badly it could go, think about how great you'll feel once it's over and you've given a good account of yourself.

If you need to pause and compose yourself during the interview, that's fine. The pause won't be anywhere as long as it feels in your own mind, and they'll appreciate the fact that you are able to gather your thoughts and make good decisions under pressure rather than gabble on endlessly.

Finally, nothing to do with relaxation per se, but my rule of thumb has always been to smile and be positive at all times, and turn negatives into something optimistic e.g such and such is not my strength, but I'm aware of that and I think I've made big improvements in that area which I'd expect to continue.

Most of all, remember that once you've been talking for a couple of minutes, the nerves will go away. If they hit you again, deep breath, pause and straight on with it. You'll soon forget about the anxiety.

Well the interview is over. It seemed to go okay and there was not any questions I did not have an answer for. Of course that is not to say that the answer I gave was the answer they were looking for.

Good news they are aiming to let me know today. So will report back again soon :)
