I moved to Atlanta in 1978 a year into his presidency. I expected him to be held in high esteem in Georgia - one of their own becoming President. If anything I heard more criticism than praise with many negative comments about his time as Governor of Georgia. My personal opinion is average president, but an outstanding post-presidential career.

This reflects on the fact that Carter really wasn't a politician and was more a humanitarian. People liked his warm personality which was once lauded in politicians. Now lying, being a bully and a criminal are more desired in a politician. Of course those comments were not directed at any recently elected officials.

He was a great man and agree the best ever ex-president. His presidency was not a successful one but it takes nothing away from the impact he had. RIP, well earned.
