Putting journeymen like Bullard in the national team is another kick in the teeth for skilful players and demonstrates why we are no longer a world force.

skillful players like whom exactly?

rooney? gerrard? lampard? beckham? ashley cole? ferdinand?

oh wait, no they'be proven themselves not to be good enough. maybe you should accept that, and the manager should realise that if he keeps picking the same players the last two losers did as manager, he will fail as well.

why do you suggest that bullard is not a skillful player anyhow? i think he could quite easily get a place in a much more successful club than fulham.

Why do you hate Jimmy Bullard so much? He's bloody skillful, a very good passer of the ball, great set pieces and tackles and works hard, he's far more skillful than Jenas and he's a much better player than Jenas or Bentley

The same Hargreaves who has been pretty much quality every time he's played for England?

I'm staggered Owen hasn't been called up. His scoring record is fantastic at International Level & we need a goalscorer badly. I'm also amazed Crouch hasn't been called up either. It's hard to argue with his choice in defence, but with the forward players he's got it wrong

yes, the sick note who plays about ten games a season and when he does play runs about and tackles a few people. albeit he does that well, he is not the most SKILLFUL player, is he?

We must agree to disagree as he is just another Ray Parlour all heart and energy and very little skill although it could be argued that we had the same in Brian Horton so perhaps every team needs a worker. What we need and havent got is another Paul Ince or young Paul Scholes.
Actually Bullard reminds me a bit of Billy Bremner - he wasn't the most skilful player in the world either.

You're right though, he's no Paul Ince, or a Nobby Stiles. And we do need (I think) that midfield enforcer. But we can't get any worse, so perhaps going for a team of journeymen (like Greece in 2004 or Ireland under Charlton) is better than trying to work out how to accodate all the so-called 'skilful' players.

He plays as a holding midfielder....so yes his job is to run around and tackle. And he does it very well.

I think insulting him for being injured is a bit of a low blow, I'm sure he doesn't want the problem with his knee.

Sorry I assumed you were saying add Hargreaves to the list of people Bullard was a "much better footballer" than and there's no way Bullard is a "much better footballer" than Bentley, that's just silly.

i'm not insulting him being injured. i'm calling him a sick note.

i would rather see bullard in the squad than some cocky smug little twat like bentley who thinks he is too good for the U21s, put it like that then.

Why?
On what basis?
Because the Sun and Mirror don't say so?
Bentley is a very average player who isn't that good and beating people or crossing which is what he's supposed to best at.
Bullard is good tackler and a good passer who doesn't waste the ball which is what you want in a central midfielder

No because they both play every week so it's easy to see for ourselves. I don't read the red tops. Bentley's crossing last week was absolutely sublime.

He is arrogant but I don't have a huge issue with that if he delivers. He RAN the game against Switzerland.

I'm sorry but he's clearly not a "very average" player, that's just ridiculous. I'm no fan of Beckham but I wouldn't call him a "very average" player.

Bullard is a good player, granted. So not "much better".

Will be nice to have a genuinely likeable player like Bullard in the team. Reminds me of Gazza.

I'm a big fan of Michael Owen, but he's not really fit and he missed a sitter against Arsenal on Saturday with Capello in the stand.

Jimmy Bullard is a fantastic pick. It'll make a nice change to see someone wearing the shirt with REAL pride and looking like they're trying. Perhaps it might rub off on some of the regulars

I'm a fan of Bullard. Very little gets past him and, given an outlet around him (and there will be enough players willing to receive the pass), can completely dominate the midfield.

The choice of only four strikers is my big concern, especially when one of them (Walcott) is still clearly very much learning his trade. I would have added Crouch.

Walcott could be a good pick as he is clearly better than Andorra. Put him upfront, he uses his pace, he scores one, gets his confidence up, bags another and it may turn him into a class player as he will finally have the belief in himself that he is actually a good player.

It's not a kick in the teeth to them though is it, because they don't exist. Bullard has a lot more ability than Parlour anyhow, but it is another muddled selection. I can't believe how poor Capello has turned out to be. I know there's not a lot to work with but he seemed like the person to ignore "reputations" and realise ability wise we are not a GREAT side and instead of picking a bunch of the supposedly best individuals and find a functioning TEAM with the players we do have. Instead he's turned out to be Steve McClaren with fascist sympathies.
