Connolly is a decent striker already with the talent to be a good one. Welbeck was fit for the majority of last season and hopefully he will play a similar amount of games this season.

Agree about Welbeck but Connolly?Lol.Should have gone out on loan instead of Zeqiri

We will still finish top ten. That is progress

We have enough potential out on loan

This is all very 'aftertimey'.

I don't remember anyone saying this back in the summer...

...or 12 months ago...

Looking at the overall package of goal scoring forwards/match winners.

Maupay, Welbeck and Trossard’s the best we’ve had in the EPL 5 seasons, with Trossard having found his confidence.

Welbeck’s injury spells are inevitable, it’s dogged his career I think.

A 15 goal a season striker to add to the above may well be the dream of all of us and most probably Bloom, but they’re a rarity and countless numbers of other clubs across the major nation top flights in Europe are also after that elusive player. Some willing to pay wages on another planet to us.
We need some help and that bit of quality in attack, Maxwell Cornet for an example looks some player from what I’ve seen so far it doesn’t always have to cost millions that’s just an excuse some fans use to justify the summer non recruitment of a much needed forward.

What’s Cornet got to do with a thread about signing a striker?

He plays in exactly the same position as Cucurella who think we can all agree has been a great signing and cost a similar amount of money.

Squad is fine. Think Potter thinks so as well. Sima or Zeqiri would have stayed if he thought there was a lack of strikers.

Maupay, Trossard, Welbeck and Connolly, could be a lot worse.

Trossard is a good player but he’s not a striker and it’s not like Foden at Man City.
City dominate because they have lots and lots of money and can buy a range of world class players who can all score. So yeah, they can play a system that foregoes an out and out goalscorer because De Bruyne, Mahrez, etc can all chip in.
Albion are a few billion short of having that luxury.
We need strikers.
Taking consistency, ability and fitness into account our strike force is bottom three. It’s blatantly obvious that’s the case.
Given that you know a bit about football, your case for Connolly makes me think you’re bored, rather than truly believe it.

For the January window just Connolly, Locadia and Baluta out with 1 new striker in.

It should be a relatively quiet window.

After the last 9 months are you honestly including Connolly and keeping a straight face? I like Welbeck but he’s never fit for more than 6 matches.

Nice try. Disguising a 'Connolly is sh1t thread' as a January Window thread. Well this is as far as I'll be reading. The Leicester Match thread version was pretty much spiteful, ignorant online bullying if young Aaron stumbled upon it and frankly it ruined the match thread for me.

When was the last time he played even one full Premier League game? When was the last time any one criticising him saw him play a full 90 minutes of Premier League football live? The only full games he plays aren't in a team including experienced first teamers. He plays with the kids, the development squad, and other fringe players. So outside of football he's not showing up too well. But there are others, actually in the current first team, who have also had their moments in their personal lives.

The relentless bile directed at Connolly is quite sickening in it's content. Based on ignorance and spite.

And the fact that we were 3-nil down against Citeh and Potter left him on the bench says it all

He is finished at this level

He left Connolly on the bench for exactly the same reason that he brought Maupay off the pitch - that tactic wasn't working and our lone isolated striker wasn't getting any service. Once we moved to a different formation we got more into the game and kept toe-to-toe with City.

In the first half, with a striker on the pitch, we had 3 shots, with 1 on target (City had 14/10)

In the second half, after Maupay had been replaced by Mwepu, we had 7 shots with 4 on target (City reduced to 9/4)

**Not one of our shots in the game was from a "striker"**

It is plain that if we are to achieve Tony's aim of a top half finish this season we need to bring in a striker in the January window.

Can you go "toe to toe" with a team 3-0 up at half time, after they put in less than 30 seconds of effort to get that lead?

Irrespective of what the aim has been, over the last 10 years, the club has always been a striker short to obtain it in a timely fashion.

I don't see any reason why 01.02.22 will be any different to all but one of the others.

Welbeck looks at a football pitch these days and pulls a hamstring, Connolly I can’t remember the last time he influenced a game at PL level & Maupay is up and down like a whores knickers. I’m with the OP.

Striker options are totally woeful - cannot rely on Maupay to produce either - he needs serious competition for his place as he's a guaranteed starter at this rate which is never healthy

Didn't Barber say one of the reasons why we buy and then loan players out is because they are a cheaper option hoping they become good than trying to buy expensive ready-made players on mega wages then realising they aren't PL ready or good enough.

Really had no idea he can’t stop scoring since his debut assumed he was a winger/forward

It's a viable long-term strategy for us to be able to afford players that can challenge in this division. We've got a lot of players currently playing and developing at Championship level or similar foreign league level - eg Belgium top tier or SPL. Not all will make the grade, but those that do will save us millions.

You dont know anything about his attitude. Judging him based on hearsay or haircuts says a bit about your own attitude issues however.

This isn’t hearsay. He has an attitude. Worst at the club.

I’m hoping our current league position, if we can just hang on a little longer will help convince a striker of the potential platform our club might be.
