Another vote for Cape Verde. The African Caribbean. Bit windy though so move to the other side of the island.About an 8 hour flight, is that too long?
We own but have several friends that long term rent. Benefits to both I guess
Thanks, I've recently retired and am thinking about buying in the Canery islands but will probably rent.
I am leaning toward Madeira at the moment. I will mainly be hiking but will likely hire a moped and bomb around on that if I fancy going greater distances.
Gran Canaria is not that warm in January is it?
I'd suggest Florida which I know fails the short-haul test. We've been quite frequent visitors but went for just a week in February, slightly worried we'd feel it was too much of a trek for such a short stay, but it absolutely wasn't. We didn't do any theme parks and largely chilled, swam and enjoyed the sun.
Out of school holiday season you'll get cheap flights, and you can pay as much or as little as you want for accommodation.
I imagine it would be a fair bit warmer than Gran Canaria is, if warmth is your thing.
South Tenerife, perhaps which is what most people, like you. think of as Tenerife.
North Tenerife is a different proposition altogether: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/...Tenerife-the-island-reveals-its-quieter-side/
Hello you lovely lot!
Looking to get away , pref short (ish) haul in mid jan for ten days or so. But would love some sunshine and heat. Any ideas? Flexible on price, flights and duration.
So far I thought Gran Canaria as it has the warmth. Any personal recommendations and why?
Cheers!
Screw the carbon footprint nonsense. Just enjoy life.

Where did you go in the end Clamp? What was the weather like?
Iceland
Went to my place in Cornwall in the end. Disappointing but work schedule was rearranged. Weather was frankly awful but after an intense December, any break was most welcome. And in certain landscapes, inclement weather can hold it’s own appeal.
Got some locked in leave in March so thinking Gran Canaria or Madeira. Which do you think?
Whereabouts in Cornwall is your place?
Pretty much slap bang between St Ives and Penzance, so quite far down. Nearest conurbation is a very small place called Gulval. I’m off the beaten track. Lovely for a few days but bit remote, especially “off season”.
Can I ask, why the interest?
