Yes he can be annoying but this is actually quite frightening.

American kids actually do not even understand what vegetables are and are living off processed food.

He has adopted a very fat family, why are they all so large ? They must he total crap all of the time.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
His recipies are actually very easy and very good - unlike Delia's where half way through using up every pan in the house at 8pm on a Wednesday night. and having to make up half of it because it includes ingredients you have never heard of, and can't for the life of you find anywhere in Asda (or Morrisons, or Tesco, or the chinese supermarket which otherwise usually can find anything) it suddenly says "now rest in the fridge for 5 hours".

"do you have any documentation for that" hahaha. It's like another world.

Also re: easy cook books, recommend any of Bill Grangers, brilliant books.

I had to turn it off, I was too embarrassed for the lot of them. the yanks are terminally stupid and ignorant, and Jamie Oliver has turned into a health nazi.

I've never been to america, but one thing you get from american telly is they don't like being preached to, and they don't like being called a stupid obese unhealthy bastard. Oliver was basically doing both these things, he was on a hiding to nothing from the start.

What the hell is a Sloppy Joe.

I would describe it as a burger bap with fried ground beef in it...a bit like a chilli con carne sandwich.

Something like this:

You just know they are going to be good for you...as long as you want furred arteries and a coronary at 40!

Not suprising really as there country was basically founded by people who don't like being told what to do. I think Oliver's heart is in the right place and sometimes he gets a bit of unfair stick dispite being a fat-tongued mockney twat. I think he has his work cut out here though. Feel sorry for the fat family, hopefully them learning there son may die on his thirties should make them change their ways.

I've stopped in Charleston before. It's a terrible place. It would be a different story in California, for example.

It would be like going to a fish and chip shop in Glasgow.

Mrs n1 gull actually made this programme and if its not too boastful and embarrassing to mention won an EMMY for it in the States. It did really well out there, but was a huge risk as the Americans don't like slagging off their Government and the (junk) food industry pays for all the tv advertising, so ABC who showed it were really nervous.

It was bloody hard work for them all and in my opinion the series gets better when all the emotional stuff gets out of the way and he starts to change the minds of his critics, schools etc..

I think (although I'm hugely biased) its a really good bit of telly.

The challenges aside, the evidence of Man V Food gives you some idea of how the people in Jamies prog got as big as they have.

I have no real problem with the eating challenges in themselves - I wouldn't want to do it personally, but it's a bit of fun. But the general joe public are eating that stuff all the time, in huge quantities - it's no surprise they're that big.

I agree - it's an excellent programme.

Did you know that they are now building houses WITHOUT cookers (just with microwaves) in the States, as so many families eat only take away food and NEVER cook.

We are not without fault here in the UK when it comes to diet, but the Americans (or a significant proportion of them) need some serious education when it comes to diet/exercise.

I do wish however that Jamie would have another push here in the UK as there are FAR too many fat/unhealthy kids here too.

You have to give credit to Jamie. His heart is in the right place and he is being ambitious in trying to effect changes. Imagine having to hold your tongue with some of the ignorant idiots he has encountered so far. He has persisted when they have put barriers infront of him. One of the smug lunch ladies is so infuriating you get a strong urge to give her a good slap.

American's are fine, annoying but in general are fine. Their problem is that they live in a 'now society' where everything has to be now, they are fixated with instant solutions and junk food is right down there street, also they love the idea of getting something for nothing so the ‘everything that you can eat’ restaurants are also right down their street (obviously they’d drive as no one walks). Their perception of fat people is different to ours, it is much more acceptable to be fat because most other people are! I find it funny that they will spent thousands of dollars getting their teeth done so as to look good, but at the same time have no problem being grossly over weight. My teeth are not bad but I should have had a brace when I was young, a few years back when on business in Silicon Valley I had a lady chastise me for not having straight teeth. I replied that I would have my teeth done if she lost weight, she replied that there was nothing wrong with her weight … that fact that she weighed twenty stone seem to allude her!!!
I was also once given a bollocking by a waitress for not using a ‘doggy bag’ as she thought I didn’t like the food, it took me ages to get it across to her that I was stuffed and just couldn’t eat anymore now or later
