IMO he remains a very promising young player, but one that is probably not yet fully physically or mentally matured. His best role for the moment is thus most likely to be as an impact player coming from the bench.

I agree with most of that.

Next question: How long do we give him to prove himself as more than just a promising young player??

The simple answer is to loan him out, for a month get him full games for a league two/ one club and see what he can do.

Agreed. Too much pressure on him at the moment, send him out to a mid table club in one of those divisions where he can play with less pressure on him.

He is still a kid, too early to judge. Not everyone his age has the physique of Rooney, and he needs to build up his strength to hold off defenders.

I saw him play against Manchester City U-17's last year in the FA Youth Cup and he was the best player on the park.

If people give him a chance I am sure he will come through. However the nature of the Withdean Whingers is to crucify first, ask questions later.

I agree.

However, the issue is; should he be playing as much 1st team football as he is? The answer to which, at Championship level, i think must be "no". That is not his fault though, he needs time to develop.

How old was Peter Ward when he first played, and scored, for Brighton - 23? Jake has some way to go until then.
However, I think the pressure on him to do well must be very high. It's not as if we're scoring loads and winning regularly. I don't know what it's doing for him, but it's certainly getting to us fans.
When we get McCammon back I think a month on loan to a Div 1 club could be good for him. Bristol City could be an interesting option.

I was thinking Bristol as well, or someone like Oxford.

In an ideal world Mcghee would have got a young premier striker on loan and sent Robinson on loan as well.

That'll be the Bristol City who are in worse relegation trouble than us and their fans are mightily pissed because their manager has brought in loads of loan players? :nono:

I think Jake is stilll the best partner for Leon. He needs to work on his first touch and finishing, his strike on Saturday shows he can shoot with power, so whether it's nervousness or overzealousness I don't know... But his movement and pace are excellent. He's always making a run, he creates space for others. How many of Leon's goals have come alongside Jake? He just needs a little bit more strength and to find his touch and finish that he has shown for the reserves, youth, and at Aldershot, in our first team.

Has definite potential, but at the moment isn't up to Championship football. A spell out on loan in the league would probably be a good idea.

So what do you think of his performances and contribution on the pitch ?

I think that the game seems to change when he gets on the pitch.

You cant really say that about any other of our players.

I agree he is lightweight, but there again, so was wardy. I am not saying he is a wardy, however, at least he gets into positions where with a bit more experience and confidence he will certainly score more goals.

I think jakey, Carole and Frutos are shining lights in a sea of mediocracy.

But did Ward bottle tackles?

With the way we play at the moment, there only seems to be room for one diminutive striker, and there's no comparison between Leon and Jake. If he's not going to go out on loan, he's an okay sub, but no more presently.

This is the argument that is often aimed at leon K. Do you want jakey flying into tackles against 15st 6ft 5 defenders and risking injury? or is it best for him to prseeurise defenders, which is what he does quite well and be fit for the next game?

wardy was not the best tackler, and we didnt want him to be...tackling is for midfielders and defenders...closing down is for attackers.

Dont get me wrong i agree with that 99% of the time, its just when he does it and its costs a goal - such as Palace
