I think he's still finding his feet.

He was undoubtably a star at youth level, and had all the confidence he needed.

However it's difficult for a youngster to step up into a struggling team, and perfrom at the same level. (Yeah, you could argue that Rooney did it, but Jake is no Rooney along with 99.999% of all other footballers).

The long range shot on Saturday, (which I didn't see, but heard on the radio), would seem to indicate that his run in the first team is building some confidence.

I see no reason to loan him out. He's getting enough of a battering in the games he's playing for us, and has no need of div1 or 2 cloggers breaking his bones.

Judging by what I have seen this season. (8 games), Jake probably has the most potential of all our strikers, including Leon, who I can't see ever improving much from his current form and ability.

Dont get me wrong i agree with that 99% of the time, its just when he does it and its costs a goal - such as Palace

sorry mate...when he does what that cost us a goal?

I seem to remember the third goal was a pass from CKR into their midfield....the second was a fast break through midfield and the first was a cross when the defence lost freedman

I think that some of what he does shows real potential and he defintely does some very difficult things very well, my main concern is that he does seem to miss quite a few relatively simple chances - that one v Palace when he didn't know he was offside was case in point - when you're eight yards out with the goalie to beat you have to hit the net whatever level you're at.

Thr coaching staff also need to get him on some sort of high carb diet next summer to beef him up a bit, still looks like a little kid - but that's certainly not his fault.

Overall, he's shown he has something and will be learning with each game he plays - if we go down, he will destroy a lot of defences in what is a very poor division below us. If we stay up he will be a year older and a year more experienced.

I ment he went in with the 50 - 50 with the keeper - wrong sort of cost, my bad.

Oh I see what you mean...

That is always a difficult one...McCammon or McPhee would have clattered the goalkeeper...no doubt.....I dare say Leon would have done what Jakey did.

Brings me back to my point above......some huge lump with boots flying at you and he took the easy option.

agree 100%

But that is not jakey's fault, and therefore he shouldn't be castigated by the withdean crowd when he doesnt.

Brings us back to the old "Alan Shearer" battering his way through defences arguement.......Every teams needs a target man.

I agree- we need to play someone with a physical presence alongside Leon to give us options.

Which is exactly what Mcghee has been after for the last two years

What's happend to big Argie bloke??

He looked like he was quite a big lump.

He scored a hattrick in the reserve and hasn't been seen since!

Did we get ripped off over this fella?

I hink most of us would have been happy to see Trevor Benjamin back down here. We will of course never know, but I wonder if we approached him at some time before he went to Northampton?

I assume that he is still playing for the reserves. It will take a while for him to settle down. New country, new language, moved away from friends and family. I am positive that we will see some good stuff from El Turi this season.
