Agree - Crofty used to specialise in that too as a player. I wonder if he's had any influence.
Maybe, but I reckon that timing is something that's probably more of a natural instinct than something that can be coached. Frank Lampard certainly had it and as a result was one of the, if not the, highest scoring Premier League midfielders of his generation.

One thing I would say Hinshelwood might currently have going for him is that I suspect it’s very unlikely the opposition have him down as one of our main attacking threats. We’ve got bundles of forward talent who the opposition have to worry about and have defensive game plans for. Jack is probably someone they think they can just pick up in general play rather than having a specific strategy to deal with him (as we see against our wingers).

Mitoma went through a similar phase in his first few games before teams soon realised they needed to do something about him. Happens to a lot of players.

Hinshelwood’s versatility and ability to pop up in different zones will always make it harder for opponents to have a plan against him though (much like Gross!). And if they do start affording more defensive coverage of Jack, it means they’ll likely have compromised somewhere else, freeing up space for others.

I think you underestimate the depth of opposition analysis that goes on in professional football.

Nope. They will no doubt have done analysis on Hinshelwood, but he will still be (for now at least) low down on their priority list of players to stop. You can’t man mark/double-up on everyone, and - at the moment - Jack probably falls into that bracket of we’ll cover him through our general out of possession set-up.

Like I said.. going to be in the national team before the season is over.

Will be a massive task to keep him around for a few years but the chances are of course better than if he was a foreign signing. He's already at the level where he'd get game time for ANY club, scary to imagine how good he'll be in a couple of years.

Yeah but if you listen to Dwayne he'll be sold to Nuneaton in the Summer window.

How you feeling now, Dwayne? Starter for the u21s and if he starts playing regularly in midfield for us and scoring goals - he'll get himself a cap this season.
Let me tell you the first mistake you made.....

Yep I agree - predicted last December he would be in the England MU21s this summer/season and that we ‘have a world class player in the making’ - he’s easily a target for the seniors - Carsley will know him well.

[Albion] - Jack Hinshelwood [9/4/24: new deal to 2028]

Also as has been mentioned before, he’s a home grown local boy - the loyalty to Brighton will run deep so I think we could keep him around for a few years yet - he’s only 19.

I dunno. I reckon if our Twitter admin has spotted it, there’s a high chance a team of highly qualified analysts might have picked it up as well

What I hope is that we keep offering him, and he keeps accepting, incrementally better and longer deals as his star continues to rise, exactly as we did with Dunk

I’m now at the point with Jack H, that he is the Brighton player I’d be most disappointed if we lost.

Thought he was bench for under 21s? And also played one in midfield for us ?

Let’s see. Very early days. Rather he was played in mid than defence though.
