Want the boy to succeed but he's simply not good enough. Lower EPL or championship is his level. Let's see how he does this year but he was woeful on Saturday, can't understand why he wouldn't be loaned and Barco was. Barco is an Argentinan international FFS.
Wow. What are you basing this on? One of our best players last season before injury and now one ring rusty performance in anew season in an unfamiliar position?
Not for me Dwayne. I think he's going to be great. Just not sure where yet.

No disrespect but what EPL game has he actually played in CM. The only one I can recall is villa away where we got absolutely destroyed. I know he's a local lad and all that but he has a lot to prove.

That’s not my line of thought. For the televised/highlights of other levels of football, he stood out head and shoulders as the midfield star. Range of passing, vision, execution of passing, goals, awareness of teammates, nous on breaking up opposition attacks.

Then at RB in the PL like a duck to water he was highly effective. Imho he’ll be a star at either RB or CM.

Villa away …. typical Albion, we didn’t match up three in CM against three powerhouses, so naive. Not his fault.

He played in midfield quite a lot when we were attacking last season. His role was right back when defending and then pushing into midfield to cause an overload when we had possession with the left back becoming a third centre back at times.

Positions are becoming more and more fluid and players that can play different roles depending on if you have possession or not are going to become even more common.

You couldn’t be more wrong imo (unless his injury has compromised his development)

The reason he was ‘woeful’ on Saturday was because he was repeatedly 1:2:1 with a very experienced winger - Jack dogged him continuously and kept him under pressure which forced some very poor crosses.

He’s not a Left Back player but was filling in to cover Barco/Pervis and worked hard throughout the game.

He’s come up through the Academy, that and his family pedigree gives him more than enough confidence to play for us at senior level. We need to have him in a RFB/R sided midfielder position though.

He’s a better all round player than Barco, is more mature and has a more developed understanding of the football we play at Brighton.

Oh and Hinshelwood has also been capped for his Country, playing for both the U18s and U19s. Barco also played for the international youth teams - he’s played twice only with the senior side and that was this year.

I think Barco has tremendous talent and potential but as an all round player, he is not as far developed as Hinshelwood.

Wasn’t even at right back he was dealing with Harrison, it was at left back. He did a great job at RB last season.

Or maybe due to the weird way the BBC (and some others) have started listing the team when it is announced. So, if a team sets up like this:
GK
RB-RCB-LCB-LB
RDM-LDM
RW-CAM-LW
ST
...the logical (and traditionally used for years) for listing it is:
GK: RB, RCB, LCB, LB; RDM, LDM; RW, CAM, LW; ST
.....but now, for some reason some people are changing it to:
GK; LB, LCB, RCB, RB; LDM, RDM; RW, CAM, RW; ST
Confusing, illogical - and IMHO, wrong!

One thing I noticed - he kept stopping himself rather than making the overlapping run past Mitoma. Several opportunities to do this but he would stop and go inside instead. Don't know if this was on instruction or because he's instinctually right sided?

It's possible we'll bring Ferdi in, but it's a tough first assignment.

My guess is that Ferdi will get 20 mins at the end of the Crawley game and similar at the end of the Arsenal game.

Hinsh to start both

Even more confusing if they’re listing two Right Wingers and no one on the Left in the team lists

(Maybe that was us under RDZ for a few months last season - oh wait, we had no wingers at all 😂)

But good point though.

I really like Jack. He's been superb since he broke into the team. BUT he's not a left back. Everton game him some trouble & all 3 times utd had the ball in the back of the net it came from attacks on the right. I'm a bit concerned for him & us if this is considered a long term solution

I think Jack will switch to RB when Ferdi signs.

But longer term I think he’s a central midfielder.

He’s a left-footed inverted fullback which makes playing on the left inside channels awkward for him probably which is why he sat deep - as a right sided inverted fullback, his tendency is to move into central areas ahead of the CBs when we are in possession and joining the CDM line to progress into the MF - Hinsh did this very effectively last season as a right-sided player - still wondering why FB wants to play him on the Left when there are other options. Appreciate Pervis has been out but what’s happened to Igor? Maybe it is just to give Hinsh match time as he’s behind the pecking order of Veltman (remembering Hinsh was covering for an injured Veltman and Lamptey last season)?

I couldn't bring myself to carry on doing it the wrong way round! :)

He's just doing a filling in job for now. I think hurzeler is well aware it's not his natural position. We will see the better of him later in the season I suspect, but he's doing his best.
