Not harsh. Boris got through the tory leadership process in full knowledge of what sort of person he was on the basis that the British were shallow enough to hold their nose and vote tory anyway. They were right. In a sensible country, with sensible people, like the one mentioned in this thread, someone like Boris would never have got near the position to be voted in.

Now we're reaping what we sowed
But thankfully we have folk like you who are so wise and can comment on the voting habits of millions of shallow people.

Following a comment on another thread and the way New Zealand tackled the virus crisis, Jacinda Arden is now the most popular PM in over a century.
There is a General Election due in September and her Labour Party has a 30% lead in the most recent opinion poll. In addition she has a 50% lead over the new opposition leader as best choice for PM.
Lots of lessons for other politicians to learn on the best way of dealing with a crisis.

Mmmm the natives seem to be getting restless!!

Public polls have shown increasing dissatisfaction with Jacinda Ardern's government, and there has been an increase in protest activity in recent months.

Authorities in New Zealand have been playing Barry Manilow's greatest hits in an attempt to dislodge protesters camped outside the parliament building.

Typical Labour. We know best, pay your taxes and don’t ask questions.

As bad as Dan Andrews here in Victoria. We will soon have tourists again (thankfully) who need to be double jabbed, but he wants to mandate the three/booster jab. Will mean double jabbed tourists in bars/restaurants that locals are barred from, good luck with that.

Not at all unless I misunderstood you. I supported the OP when this thread was opened as I shared the view that she had been very impressive in her handling of a number of situations - not just COVID. It was the evidence of human qualities and that aspect of true leadership that I appreciated - I do not live in NZ so my knowledge of their economic situation is limited. I just prefer those who lead us to have strong moral authority and backbone

Totally agree but this thread is about how wonderful Jacinda is, there’s plenty of threads for you to discuss Johnson no?

Interestingly the protests ARE about her government’s handling of Covid [emoji106]

there are currently in excess of 200 thousand people protesting against vaccine mandates in Canberra , they have travelled from all over the country with more on the way , this is of course subject to a blanket ban on most govt. friendly MSM channels with channel 9 deciding , tonight to do an exposé " At home with the Morrisons" a vomit inducing up close and personal experience with the p.m and his bird as he strums his ukelele at the family dinner table ........**** me dead , they really think most of the people are dumb as **** , trouble;e is a large proportion of them are.

Ardern's heavy handed approach to lockdowns , vaccines, general nonsensical rules and regulations is wearing thin as it is in Australia where over 90 % are vaxed x2 have done what they are told but , here in W.A we are being treated like lepers by people , specifically McGowan who has just admitted in a presser that he gets his Omicron modelling from the Sunday Times .

yes mate and i am pleased for you but here we are still locked up , it's the middle of summer , people are getting covid and having nothing more than a sore throat and a cough , we can't leave the state without an adequate reason , the death of a close relative is not deemed adequate and yet if you live in sydney , Melbourne or Brisbane you can get on a plane and go wherever you want Bali , Thailand , Brazil , London...we are paying a price for being the "engine room" of the country .

Yes, there was a reason the Tories didn't trumpet our GDP figures this week. We've got 170,000 dead and our GDP recovery has been shockingly sluggish.

For me though, the true measure of success is whether people can afford food, heat, lighting and access to public services, education and health. That's what adds up to public happiness, and right now it's the rich that have far more than the poor. Forget GDP and focus on making things fairer.

The modern 'right wingers' will probably agree with that because they are not traditional Tories. They are also isolationist, reactionary and non-progressive.

And of course Arden is unpopular now.

Churchill saved us from the Nazis and we rewarded him by booting him out (because Labour promised to introduce the welfare state).

Five years later the grateful nation booted out labour because the tories promised to end rationing.

Ungrateful buggers, the electorate. It's what we do

If Arden's opposition are promising unrestricted frolicking with New Zealand lambs, it is understandable the whole nation is in a state of frenzy.
