Just caught up with that game. My god wasn't Ward good. Anyway, this was my seat in 1972
I remember as a kid going past the back of the East Stand along Goldstone Lane on a Saturday morning and seeing the gantry in place which meant that we were going to be on the TV - so exciting!!Yes - they spread around the ground from under the scaffolding for the TV gantry!
Sadly I think a few of our strikers used that yellow circle as target practice!!Just caught up with that game. My god wasn't Ward good. Anyway, this was my seat in 1972

Great photo... Pretty sure I was near the barrier/in front of the support post , behind the 'toyota centre' bit of the sign.
I was in the North as well. I used to stand a few rows behind the goal to the right as I was looking at the pitchWas in the North Stand for that game, when the news came through of a 0-0 the girl in front of me cried. When I watched Match of the day you could see how it ended up 0-0.
Agreed. The last 15/20 minutes of that game made the infamous West Germany v Austria match in 1982 look like an Old Firm match. Everyone remarked on it. (My first Albion promotion though, so I have happy memories of it)....
If you really want a case of collusion in Albion matches then take a look at the Albion draw with Rochdale in 1972. One of the Albion players admitted since that instructions went out to both teams to cease and desist.
I'm sure something would have been said independently about the Southampton match by now. But the Spurs fans theory, especially from witnesses at the game, seems plausible. They were animals and I wouldn't have wanted to be the Southampton player who scored the winning goal that day.Agreed. Like yourself and others, much as I'd like to play the victim I don't believe the Saints v Spurs game was a stich-up, and certainly not a case of pre-meditated collusion. The fact that a draw suited both sides and ultimately they settled for it isn't the same thing as saying it was 'fixed'. People will believe what they want to believe though, and it's become part of our folklore.
loving that pic so many memories.
Now that was POTGBHA v Man Citeh from 1984/85 coming up at 1040,
You were robbed! No. I was eleven
I didn't start on the Red Barrel for a further three years, FFS! Seventeen pence a pint.
Well we got our revenge, sort of, a few years later when we played Saints at the Dell. It was December 1981. If Saints won they would have gone top of the league. They didn’t, we won 2-0. I must have had a gloaty face for days after that evening of karma. One of best mates at work was actually at the game (Saints fan) and adamantly denies it was a stitch-up, no matter how drunk I get him to reach the truth, says it was a competitive game with chances for both teams. I tend to believe him as he'd have no problem saying they'd got one over on us, he just says it didn't happen here
I was at that game. Walking back to the car my dad told me to stop grinning and look more miserable as there were some very unhappy Saints fans around us.Well we got our revenge, sort of, a few years later when we played Saints at the Dell. Following on from that we, there were five of us, went to celebrate in the Frog and Frigate pub - it’s still going I think. Anyway I got a round in and the landlady said how much it cost which was, let’s say £4.40. I gave her a fiver and the 40p to be helpful and said “There you are you just give me a quid back.” She went absolutely ballistic. “What are you, an accountant, are you trying to tell me how to do my job?” she ranted.I was at that game.
