I don't remember being taught bodmas/bidmas as at school.

As society we write form left to right. Why can't maths be the same? Why work out the multiplication first?. Stupid idea.

The multiplication comes first so it is 10 X2 (20) +1 = 21

Maybe so when there are brackets. But in this example there were none so 1+ 10 =11 x 2 = 22?

The problem is ambiguous and inconsistent, ie. three horses are shown as three images, but two horseshoes are shown as one image. And that's ignoring the lack of brackets.

Because the rule is not order written. The rule is brackets then exponents then division/multiplication and lastly addition/subtraction.

They have been getting the sums wrong on the numbers round on countdown for years if that is the case

Of course that's the case. Unless there are brackets around addition/subtraction then multiplication and division is always done first.
