Doesn't mean he shouldn't be recognised as a bloody superb manager. He's recent history, so it's all relevant. And it's true, "fans" on here would be calling Gus every single name under the sun if he'd said that.

And no-one, and I mean no-one, is saying he wasn't a great manager and I'm not saying we should not talk about his achievements. It's this referencing back to Gus when Oscar says something that I think should stop.

It's always the same people on both sides of the debate carrying on the same sodding arguments that you've been doing for the last 2 months. None of you have anything new to say.

As I said on the other topic, the Gus brigade are changing what Oscar has said to suit themselves.

Oscar didnt deal with transfers or budgets at all in Tel Aviv so its all new to him here, hence why it "Is not easy".

Oh and NEWSFLASH - Gus has gone so stop banging on about him !!

He was a good manager and developed us to our current level. He had his limitations which he will learn in time to change if he wants to get right to the top. You are misreading the quote and therefore i don't think we would complain if Gus said that as all Oscar is saying he has never managed a budget before as it was all done for him. Nothing article really yet it becomes a circus on here.

Agreed.

I don't think Oscar is actually moaning about the budget but then I don't think Gus was either - publicly playing down how much you have to spend makes good sense as it keeps parasitic agents at bay.

Plus, financial figures PROVE (you know, with maths and stuff) that Gus never lied about our budget, we genuinely did have only the 14th/15th biggest playing budget in the division.

Either way, the exact same words in the exact same context, but said by GP, would have been crucified. Yet more proof of the wilful ignorance and hypocrisy of the most fickle and negative vocal minority.

Well on another angle it seems to answer those who were concerned that transfers were not down to Oscar and that others such as Burke were too heavily involved. He is quite rightly saying it is a team effort in which he is a major player and it is pretty obvious transfers now are a nightmare. Just witness the Bale saga.

New signings will give additional strength but for the moment we have enough on the field and bench. Get them playing as they can and we will have a good season.

Only because Gus moaned about it week in, week out. It's as simple as that!

Indeed. In the context of Gus' constant budget moans, these exact words from him would have been seen as yet another one.

Ancient history now.

So you're saying the one time Gus wasn't moaning about budgets (as we all agree that is what Oscar's comments are), you would have complained that he WAS based on his previous comments.

Seems a bit unfair.

Ps- Yes, I am shit stirring :lolol:

Agree with all you've said except the bit about having enough on the field and bench, One fit striker is not enough for any squad.

I wouldn't 'complain' but I can guess a large pocket of knicker twisters on NSC would.

Stirring must be very easy on here as so many people on here are too easy.

Fans in "being hypocritical defending/ignoring the actions of someone they like that they'd slaughter someone they don't like for doing" shocker.

I suggest that you read the comment in context. He is discussing the fact he is normally just a coach and others deal with finance and transfers. It is nothing like Poyet's constant moans about the lack of a massive budget for him to spunk.

I can see no indication of Oscar being unhappy at the size of his budget.

VERY much this!

It kinda shows just how much of a factor Gus was in signing players. Oscar doesn't have much of a reputation of his own to sell to potential targets and may really struggle to even get first contact with the sort of players Gus managed to sign.

Convincing the likes of Kuzszcak, Bruno, Upson, Bridge, Crofts, Hammond, Orlandi, LuaLua, Vicente, Dobbie, Ulloa, David to drop down from playing in their retrospective top flights to play for Brighton was quite something. We cannot be an easy club to sell to players

EVERY football club needs a manager/coach who will engage in robust conversations with the owner/chairman about budgets.

Indeed. I think people's complaints about Gus seem to be that he did quite a lot of that in public.

However there are very few managers who don't and as others have said I think some clubs encourage it to set the expectation for fans, potential new players and other clubs who you may be negotiating with.
