When I go on the trainline app and look at trains on the friday from Rome to Milan Malpensa it shows a pretty full service. Is this because the apps not up to date or is it just not a particularly effective strike? Is it possible they're selling tickets for trains that won't actually run?

Whats the big message across the top of the page? Looks to me like they are just showing the usual timetable without a strike as they probably can't be arsed updating their app. But are showing the warning at the top.

I have just gone through the match between the irresistible force (my Albion dedication) and the immovable object (my - entirely personal - decision to stop flying after 40 years of touring) and it's a draw after extra time and penalities. So I don't know what the fck to do!

It's not just the climate issue. I've done 6 tours of Canada, 4 tours of the US and Oz/NZ and a few bits in Europe and hated every single moment of every single flight...which is a lot of minutes :)

If I were going (which I'm not) and if I had the time (which I don't), I'd love to travel from the UK to Rome by train. Undoubtedly, the reality would be far removed from the Gerald Durrell-esque image I have in my mind, but it feels like a real adventure compared to the sub-human experience that Stansted airport specialises in.

You can get down there ok presumably?

We don't know about trains heading north on Friday - some are confident there will be some services, with others saying all long-distance services will run, so one option is to just book it and hope.

Other than that, you could stay an extra day and depart Rome on Saturday when the strike is over.

The other option, and something I wasn't aware of before someone posted about it on here, is the Nightjet overnight service. Someone on here has booked from Rome to Munich. Presumably once there your journey should be fine.

Problem is I booked the Eurostar unaware of the strike, so that option gets me back too late. A right piss off all round....

I've seen so many conflicting bits of information on whether air travel is likely to be impacted on the Friday. Anyone found anything concrete?
Considering it seems to be a national strike that is a week or so away, getting exact information on what is affected/what will run seems to be ridiculously difficult.

Yep, looks like their 23/24 Feb strike when impact only confirmed several days before.

But we don't yet know its definitely happening- clearly the unions have registered their intent, so guess likely to be carried through.

Is there any clues accessible from that strike as to what services ran?
If you go to the trenitalia website there is a list of guaranteed services during strikes. If you then use the Viaggia Treno site you can plan your journey . Cross reference the options to see if any are on the guaranteed list . We are flying from Florence and can get the 9420 train from Napoli to Venice , which stops at both Roma and Firenze . Hopefully that makes sense ?

Could you possibly link to the page with guaranteed service please? Can’t find a translate option so am struggling somewhat….

Thanks. Here’s hoping!

I did see there was a National strike yesterday/today so not impossible!
In Italy it’s possible. Atleast 1/2 every month!
The strike is on March 8th and nearly always nationwide strikes are on Friday here.
Regional strikes vary.

Probably waiting to see if Roma win or lose. If we beat them then it's definitely on.

From the 'Trainline' site the following suppliers may be affected: it doesn't include Frecciarosa - their highspeed service. By the way , just booked this service from Milan to Rome for the Wed before the game, £30 one way in premium class what a bargain - UK train companies could learn a thing or two.
