I said on the match thread before the game that we might have underestimated them, turns out we didn't, but we did need COG to turn up. If his pen had gone in I think we would have held on comfortably enough to 2-1. It is a shame that the unbeaten run is over, but I guess the bonus is that the first team are still unbeaten.

Classic NSC overreaction to our first lost of the season. If our reserves had done the job last night and COG had done what he is paid to do everyone would have been praising Hughton for giving key players a rest for Saturday.

We miss out on playing Chelsea's kids and some throw a hissy fit get a grip.

But they didn't win. CH got it wrong. The only hissy fit on here is those saying, "Oh, it doesn't matter, stop moaning, it's a good thing that we can concentrate on the league".
Trying to put a positive spin on last night ....... I don't like to say it, but it is distinctly licker-like.

I'm not bothered in the slightest about Chelsea or the League cup. As for momentum, I can remember Brighton 'throwing' a League cup game, but the winning the division with 6 games to spare. Last year, we got to the 4th round, got a pay day, but nearly got relegated.
I like the FA cup, but who really cares about the League cup?

Beating ipswich,west brom and drawing with derby in front of over 33k back in the day has given some top class memories of the league cup and our league form was not bad that year. This it is a silly cup and we didn't want to play in it anyway attitude shows nsc in a slightly childish light. If we had got chelsea and beaten them nsc would have been creaming its collective pants

I can see that - seems rather stupid for anyone to think otherwise. Yes, he selected a second string side; it was a mistake, he got it wrong. We lost. Anyone who thinks otherwise should just check the scoreline again: Walsall 2 Brighton 1.

Hear, hear, it's like a lottery win and these days, you have got to be pretty stupid to allow such a payday to slip through your hands.
Plastic supporters or not, they still have to buy tickets, pies, beer etc.
This loss was incredibly bad for business, all competitions should be taken seriously.
Finishing mid table, with a couple of decent cup runs under your belt, would soften the blow of not getting promoted and personally I think we should be fielding the strongest team for all games.
Reserve games should be used for training games.

Hughton should have started with a stronger team or/& made changes sooner!

We should always play to win, we run at a loss and are a business, we might have won - but will never know!

I reiterate, the key issue here is momentum. Nothing to do with who you play in the next round. All about keeping a winning mentality and level of confidence. Hewton threw that out the window so we'll have to start again against Ipswich. Problem is it's very easy to go on a downward spiral of results. I would have hoped Hewton would have had a bit more nous considering he's in his '50's but as I suspect many ex footballers aren't that switched on at the end of the day. He's just gone along with what other people do in this competition. No you have to have a bit more foresight than that mate

Shame we missed out on Chelsea but I'm not too worried. We had our best League Cup run for a long time last year and it did us no good in the league (whereas we were knocked out in the first round both play off seasons).

Some seem upset about missing out on a half/half scarf evening watching Chelski, others about losing momentum/confidence and alternatively the club losing income.

I feel that the confidence aspect is the most important, and CH needs to deal with that fast.
