It takes a big man to admit he's wrong

Yes, Barnes quite clearly made the chance for himself when Dicker backheeled it through a defenders legs to put him clean through on goal 12 yards out.

:shootself

So you have Barnes's positioning, awareness and instinct as well? Blimey, get yourself down to the training ground and ask for a trial!

That I agree with İbrahim Tatlıses.

If it wasn't for Sandaza, I'd have come home yesterday pretty pissed off with Barnes for wasting glorious chances that someone with the basic ability to shoot could have scored.

He might turn out to be a good signing, and time will tell, but he needs to sort his finishing out before anyone should start raving about him.

As hard as it is for some to believe though, I'd much rather he scored the goals that fire us up than "win" arguments on a message board...

Glad to hear it, however, constantly slagging him off (and sometimes insulting him) on a public forum he may well read is perhaps not helping. Just a thought.

So WW,do you think Barnes is good enough to crack in 15-18 goals this season(injuries aside with some luck), if it is a no, then i think you are watching a different player, if it is a yes, then stop moaning about him. I don't think anyone is 'raving' about him, it is your ridiculous criticism of him which is more prominent. How about in january, if he has scored say 10-12 goals you hold your hands up on here and admit you were too harsh. You point about 'win' arguements on a message board is a self prophecy of your constant attempts to wind people up with contraversial comments.

No, I definitely don't have the "instinct" and "awareness" to spot a ball rolling towards me with nobody else anywhere near me.

WW, fair enough. Sometimes a bigger picture of a game is required and admittedly, not you alone, i feel people these days are far too quick to jump on a performance of a player. I watched barnes quite alot yesterday off the ball and his work rate was fantastic. As i posted yesterday, it was my first game this season other than going out to portugal so i was so i made a point of watching several players that were getting a little bit of a niggle on this forum Ankergren and Barnes, Ankergren i feel is a great shot stopper but not as as good as brezovan for crosses/corners. I feel brezovan is the better all rounder, but Poyet is in charge and in fairness, one goal leaked in 4 games speaks volumes across the whole defensive unit.

Agreed 100%, so is there any neccesity for some of the spiteful and vindictive comments you make about him?

Saying "Barnes quite clearly made the chance for himself when Dicker backheeled it through a defenders legs to put him clean through on goal 12 yards out." is pathetic, you would be out for the count after 15 mins so wind it in.

I'm not sure how people can justify slagging WW off for this comment as it's 100% true. It's his response to someone saying that Barnes made the chance for himself.

Dicker made that chance with an awesome bit of skill and awareness. Barnes had cleverly got himself in between the fullback and centre half but without the quick pass from Dicker the moment would've passed

If you want to call the bloke a c**t then i'm sure he's big enough to take it, but don't try and justify it by jumping all over a perfectly reasonable and correct observation.

Just bought a copy of Being Wrong by Kathryn Schulz. According to the blurb..,

"Being wrong is an inescapable part of being alive. And yet, we go through life tacitly assuming (or loudly insisting) that we are right about nearly everything - from our political beliefs to our private memories, from our grasp of scientific fact to the merits of our favourite team. Being Wrong looks at why this conviction has such a powerful grip on us, what happens when this conviction is shaken, and how we interpret the moral, political and psychological significance of being wrong.Drawing on philosophies old and new and cutting-edge neuroscience, Kathryn Schulz offers an eloquent exploration of the allure of certainty and the necessity of fallibility in four main areas: in religion (when the end of the world fails to be nigh); in politics (where were those WMD?); in memory (where did I leave my keys?); and in love (when Mr or Miss Right becomes Mr or Miss Wrong)."

Seems like an ideal candidate for the NSC book club.

There's a misconception that getting clear of the defence is the hard part. So many times we see in games where a striker gets through, has space to take the shot and misses or it is saved and commentators and fans say "he did the hard part".

That's clearly not quite true, the finishing is the hard part, we should be a little more aware of this when criticising players for not converting every single chance they have.

Barnes did miss four sitters yesterday, had he not scored his goal would you really be making this thread?

As long as he learns to become more clinical, we should have a quality striker on our books.

FFS they were not 4 sitters, they were all on target and the keeper made two decent saves and the post made another. Did you wacth Zamora when he 1st went to Fulham? He was missing and I mean missing the goal completely when he missed so many "sitters" and look how he turned it around. Give Barnes a chance, I sometimes think some Albion fans deserve the shit strikers we so often have as they are so clueless as to what makes a good striker and unwilling to give players time to settle in.

Sorry, at no stage on this post did i call him a c**t. Is this ironic inaccuracy? With regards to your first point, maybe you could read in depth and analyse correctly.
