Is this over RE Savage his agent speaks out

So, reading between the lines, Bas isn't already a well paid player by our standards. He's probably fairly average.

Which, in real terms, is considerably more than his abilities.

Bas, look at yourself. You were going nowhere as a footballer-hell, not even Gillingham wanted you. You came to the Albion, had a bit of fun with your moonwalk shit and now you think you'll do better elsewhere.

Take a hike-we don't need this shit, disrupting the second half of the season. Just go so we can draw a line under all this bullshit.

Why is it in his hands ?

If he has the foresight to see the economics behind not paying inflated wages that just requires further money from himself and the other directors.

You of all people should realise the business sense in this or perhaps you weren't so good at balancing the books.

My inference was that he has the controlling hand on how he kills this story, he either buys a striker who is remotely known or gets somebody completely unknown from non league like Elder and Revell and then has to wait for them to justify his decision. If he buys a known striker/goalscorer people will forget all this about Baz and G O'C very quickly.

Only he knows what or who we can afford, you dont, I dont and neither does anybody else on here.

The point being he has killed it for the good of the club or perhaps he should sign every Carbone available and make the club go bust ?

Very astute beachy. Good point well made.

We have resurrected Bas's career, and whilst I appreciate what he has done so far,
he is far from being a player that we should break the bank for. We have made him an offer, he can choose to accept it or seek other better offers elsewhere, that is his right.

What he doesn't have the right to do is start stirring the shit at our club and causing the destabilising furore that has occurred over the past couple of days. Both Bas and O'c are bang out of order for bringing this to the public domain. And it is also a shame that DK let his frustration get the better of him and bleat it all to the press too.

But the bottom lines remains we will pay what we can afford, and no more. If you think you can do better, then good luck to you.

On NSC for over two decades...
This all seems rather trivial to me. Bas' contract is running out, the Albion have offered him a new one 'til the end of next season together with a pay rise that amounts to at least £5 a year (based on the price of a tank of petrol). Bas has turned that down and the Albion won't offer more (presumably because we are only a little club with limited means), so he's decided to try and find alternative employment. That is his choice, so what?

Very interesting piece from the agent and one that doesn't stand up to a lot of scrutiny. As we have already shown - a couple of tanks of petrol is in the region of £10k per year.

Add this to the other stuff said which doesn't add up - the runner and provider comment etc. and you see here that Horton (who lets remember went to the argus first over the contract issue a few weeks ago) is now in damage limitation mode. Some will fall for it - others may not

As I said yesterday, I wish Knight hadn't spoken out but you can put money as to who on here would have criticised him if he hadn't.

Someones lying here. DK stated Bas' agent told Bas to sign. Bas agent clearly doesn't feel that way, is DK trying to turn fans against Bas because he thinks he's made a mistake or is greedy Bas' agent trying to get the fans back onside?!

Yes!

I think the answer to all this is in the fact that Bas, when he finally does sign for another club, will probably sign for a shite side.

Odds on - it'll be a worse offer to than the Albion. The whole thing reads as if Don King wrote the magnus apologia. Trying to get fans back in with Bas when it is very very clear that the agent tried to hold the club to ransom.

It will be a lower league one team. He kept us up practically single handedly last year so he'll be the target imo.

"He has run his nuts off for the club. In the end that just wasn't good enough for Mister Knight."

I'm with Dick on this one.

If he has run his nuts off for us, then he is a spent force andwe have no further use for him. Ship him out, and het a football player rather than a clown

I imagine we probably all want a greater wage from our employer and when it comes some will be unhappy but that is not to say that in all cases it is necessarily unreasonable. Most of this discussion has been based on the unknowns of the improved contract offer.

The facts Bas might like to consider are that between 2001 and 2006, he played only 36 league games for five clubs. During this period he scored two league goals (one for Bristol City and 1 for Gillingham). Let’s not forget that as recently as the 2005-2006 season he was on loan at Walton & Hersham. In the one year he has been with us he has started 31 games and scored 9 goals. He has easily had the best time of his career at this club. Does improving as a footballer matter to him? Does being a regular in the starting line up matter? Does being a fans favourite and popular amongst the squad too matter? Or do these things matter to an extent but are not as important as a pay increase.

Enjoy trying to find a higher wage elsewhere. Your agent may want to ask Alexis Bertin how well that goes. He may even get you a trial at Luton (but not necessarily a contract). More to life/career than just a bit extra on your salary.

Don't kid yourself. He didn't run his nuts off (and that's debatable) for "us". He did it for himself - to play well and to progres his career. We happen to be the benficiaries if it comes off, until, he moves on.

There are very very few pro footballers who are playing for the fans.

Well said. Bas was a fun player but frankly one of limited ability. if he had wanted to stay he might have developed some more & contributed to the club gaining a play-off place. As it is I expect his CV to be received more warmly at the likes of Crawley than Charlton.

I look at all this in the same way I might think about negotiating a job etc (in IT we also use agents, but I would never dream of letting them negotiated contracts once I was working for a company). Still, to get to the point.

Bas/Agent offered extension to his contract on a better rate.
Bas/Agent said 'we like the club but think Bas is worth more'.
DK said 'we like Bas hence the offer, but I cannot afford anymore.'
Bas/Agent say 'ok then, I will consider my options'
DK says 'OK, but we need a replacement if you leave so please make your mind up by the transfer window.'
Bas/Agent 'OK'
...... No decision made (possibly as no club has come in for him), Bas wants to wait for January to see if market picks up, DK wants to know if he needs a replacement before market opens.
DK says to Bas/Agent 'If deal is not signed by 28th Dec we will have to get a replacement and possible replacments will need to know we are not going to turn round and say sorry Bas has decided to stay so we don't need you.'
Agent goes to press and says 'DK has told Bas his last game is Millwall'
The rest as they say his history.

The only thing that is different in this to any other job is the press. Not a crisis, just business (with the press involved, trying to sell a few copies). Nobody is irreplacable....

That seems to be a fair assessment Ex-Staffs. Some thoughts:

1. Savage will be no great loss to the Albion.
2. Savage's agent is a moron. His client, for the first time in his life, is playing regular first team football and scoring goals...and he wants to leave.

This is precisely why Knight appointed Lloyd. Until Falmer is built we will not only continue to sell but also have contracts problems with "Billy Big Bollocks" players, so we've got to be ahead of the game in lining up replacements.

Pav,

I quite like Savage, he is capable of turning a game as he will run after lost causes, and change the shape of a dead game, but top class strike he will never be. He is in reality a poor mans Emile Hesky (I know some people don't rate Hesky, but thats by the by). He will do well if employed in league 1 or 2 side as the power house work horse. I don't think he will go much further.

Still one door closes, another opens. As for GOC, I don't know what his game is, but it is almost like he has thrown a hissy fit at DK not willing to break the wage structure for him and stired it up publically. Personally I think Bas is entitled to do what he did and good luck to him (his agent less so). GOC is stiring up shit that those left behind will have to deal with, especially bringing the likes of Hammond and Coxy into it. It would be good if they could , would be allowed, would want to, distance themseleves from this one.
