People who think Coldplay are an amazing live band are exactly the sort of people that don’t go to see many live bands. So I don’t trust their judgment at all.
Knocking Coldplay is cool. ‘Nuff said

Shit bands don’t sell out concerts worldwide by being shit

Music snob alert, no surprise this site is full of people like you.

Coldplay ARE amazing live and yes I have been to hundreds of live concerts, not so many recently though in truth

Most over rated band in their prime? Probably the Stones once Mick Taylor left

Coldplay are a great band tbf, but let’s not get carried away and start claiming they’re the best live band in the world because they get to play their anthemic pop/rock at huge venues with very expensive engineers etc…

For me the best band in the world right now are All Them Witches, who are an incendiary live act… but they’re niche and thus never likely to be popular enough to play venues like Coldplay… I guess if we’re talking BIG venues then CP are up there, but I reckon even now they’d be blown off stage by a veteran of the 70s…

Anyway, it’s all a matter of what floats yer boat I guess…

Great band @Flounce but not Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band….
I get bored with them two songs into their sets  too “shouty” for me!

I am in the “most overrated singer and band” in the world camp as far as Springsteen is concerned, but I do accept they are a wankfest band on NSC

Unlike Coldplay who are probably NSC’s most dissed band!

The thought this had been decided last month.

The answer is The Cure . . . They slot in above Coldplay, because they don't play Coldplay songs - This has made Coldplay's challenge challenging.

Very good at what they do, but what they do is not very exciting. In decades gone by they would be filed under MFP (MusicFor Pleasure) for those of a certain era.

This thread is obviously subjective nonsense but I’ll bite….

I’ve seen 20+ acts this year alone that are better live than Coldplay. And yes, I have seen Coldplay live.

If we are talking broadly across genres, a concensus of the top 5 best live acts at the moment would prob involve some combination of Taylor Swift, Nick Cave, Fontaines DC, Kendrick Lemar and Gojira.

This stuff fluctuates depending on album cycles, momentum, age, etc. For example, this time last year Fontaines DC would not have been on that list above and would instead have been replaced by Young Fathers.

Another example of this are IDLES; I love the band and have seen them live many, many times but their live peak was 2018-19 just based on the incredible community momentum they gathered at the time. It was the intangible ‘extra’ they had that their shows now can’t (understandably) replicate.
