i get what you're saying but how many of the 310k population increase in the last 10 years are births and not just migration? .

The recent figures said that 56% of the increase was from net migration, 44% then from births/deaths.

With historic crowds of over 30,000 for lower league football, the tenth largest season ticket sales in the country despite still playing only second tier football, the facts seem to point to The Amex being too small at 30,000.

However those who apparently are "in the know" seem to often say that the ground cannot be increased. If so then could The Amex long term hold the Albion back or can it be increased?

There still loads of tickets left for the Cardiff and Barnsley game, so i think the amex capacity is just about wright.

The ES Arch is not supporting the WS in any way, or ES lower tier.

In the long term, an expansion would surely mean dismantling the ES arch and its contrete anchors, to expand the ES upwards, and that might mean the end stands can be increased too.

Very expensive, but that might be 10 years away when we are owned by the Saudi royal family.

Sorry, but thats totally wrong.

Those arches, which are plunged into concreet thrust-blocks, are supporting a fully connected 'ring of steel' which goes right the way round the roofs of the stadium. The arches are leaning away from each other, pulling and counterbalancing against each other whilst holding the roof up. Think of it as though you were standing opposite someone holding hands (ooh-err), then you both lean backwards counterbalancing each others weight so you don't fall over - THATS what those arches are doing. They are connected.

Therefore, you absolutely cannot take one of the arches down to expand (at least not without pretty much deconstructing the whole stadium to do it).

Correct, and even if you were able to, it would never pass planning approval.

As an aside, the club site pic of the day shows the seats being set out in the South East corner

My understanding was that the east roof could be made higher for another tier. I am sure i read somewhere that 'Potentially' it could be around 40,000 but would mean some major structural work. However, we do not need any thing bigger yet. I may be wrong of course

Sadly the east roof could not be made higher to allow another tier. All the roofs are tied together and essentially hold each other up so you wont ever be seeing them adjusted. They might be able to add an extra few seats here and there but when finished at the end of the season the 30,000 odd capacity really is about it. Not that theres anything wrong with that. Blackburn won and survived in the Prem for many a year with a simular capacity.

By loads, you mean about 300 out of 27 thousand?!?

I think 30.000 is plenty big enough, but the more i look at the stadium i still feel there is room for more additions here and there.

No-one has been able to tell me how lowering the pitch could increase capacity... I'm sure someone said this!

Attendances will depend on successes. We still have a lot of fair weather fans.
When does that end then?,... when you say lots of fair weather fans, how many do you mean?... those 20 thousand fair werather fans from last year, committing themselves for the most part to ST's, thats really flaky support isnt it?

Indeed it is. There were a number of games towards the end of last season and even as early as Leeds in September where there were a lot of no shows by those with season tickets.
